Position Summary
Reporting to the Manager of Information and Communication Technology, The Cyber Security Analyst provides hands-on, day-to-day cybersecurity operations and technical execution to support the organization’s information security program. The role ensures the effective implementation and ongoing maintenance of security policies, standards, and initiatives defined by cybersecurity oversight committees, while maintaining compliance with provincial cybersecurity requirements.
The position is responsible for monitoring and responding to security events, conducting vulnerability assessments, implementing and maintaining security controls, and supporting audit and compliance activities. As the primary on-site cybersecurity resource, the Cyber Security Analyst plays a critical role in identifying cybersecurity risk, protecting organizational systems, data, and users.
In addition, the role develops and delivers a comprehensive cybersecurity awareness and education program, including online training materials, tip sheets, and security bulletins. The Cyber Security Analyst administers monthly phishing simulation campaigns to assess and improve staff awareness, reports metrics and trends to ICT leadership, hospital leadership (including SLT), and provincial oversight committees, and collaborates with department leaders to address repeated phishing susceptibility. These initiatives are designed to strengthen the organization’s overall security posture through education and continuous improvement.
Primary Responsibilities
- Monitor security tools (e.g., SIEM, EDR, email security platforms, firewall logs) for security alerts and indicators of compromise.
- Investigate, triage, and respond to cybersecurity incidents in accordance with established incident response procedures.
- Conduct regular vulnerability scans, risk assessments, and security reviews across infrastructure and applications.
- Work directly with Network Administrators and ICT Technical Analysts to plan, implement, and validate security improvements.
- Develop, deliver, and maintain a cybersecurity awareness and education program.
- Support internal and external cybersecurity audits and compliance assessments.
- Gather evidence, maintain documentation, and prepare security metrics and reports.
- Communicate security risks, trends, and remediation status to leadership and oversight bodies.
- Assist in implementing cybersecurity policies, standards, and procedures across ICT.
- Act as a security advisor to Network Administrators, ICT Technical Analysts, and other ICT staff.
- Stay current with evolving cybersecurity threats, technologies, and best practices
Mandatory Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree (Information Technology/Cyber Security discipline preferred, would consider candidates with equivalency in education and experience)
- Minimum 5 years of experience in Cyber Security, Information Security and Assurance or related IT field.
- Good understanding and working knowledge of Hospital/healthcare Information Systems Preferred
- Experience in Hospital Information System project implementation and support an asset
- Strong organizational, time management, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively across all levels of the organization
- Criminal Record Check required
