Location - This role is in-person. Work primarily takes place at Augustana Campus, Camrose.

The position is responsible for the delivery of accessibility related services, accommodations, and information for University students with disabilities, staff and members of the community, while providing a strong voice to the issues of accessibility (both physical and program accessibility). This position is responsible for coordinating and facilitating support services in accordance with the University's mandate of accessibility under Human Rights Legislation and related University policies. The primary responsibility of this position is the identification of accessibility-related needs and the arranging of appropriate accommodations that address the needs of students with a wide range of disabilities: physical disabilities, chronic medical conditions, neurological, and mental health disabilities, medical conditions, and students with multiple disabilities. The overall goal/outcome of this position is to assist students in overcoming any accessibility-related barriers to success in their education, and to ensure that the provision of reasonable accommodations at the institution accomplishes that goal.

Located in Camrose on Treaty 6 territory, Augustana Campus offers a unique learning experience rooted in the liberal arts and embedded in rural Alberta. Home to approximately 900 students, the campus offers undergraduate and graduate programs through the Augustana Faculty and the Faculty of Rehabilitation Medicine. Augustana provides close-knit, supportive learning environments with extensive opportunities for student engagement in athletics, clubs, and campus life—delivering a small-campus experience with a world-class degree.

• Assesses individual student accessibility-related needs for the purpose of ensuring accessibility and the provision of reasonable accommodations. The process includes an initial intake interview with all students requesting services from ASC, advising the student on appropriate accommodations, course loads, types of courses, and any other issue that relates to the student’s specific accessibility related needs, and then ensuring implementation of agreed-upon, recommended accommodations.

• Ensures that the accommodations (support services) that address the needs of the students are provided in a consistent, timely and high quality manner throughout the University.

• Supports each student’s ongoing progress throughout the academic year, by assisting them to consider options and make decisions concerning changes, requirements for additional or enhanced services, and/or need for adjusted requirements (e.g., academic programming and course load, technology training, etc.)/This may involve initiating, coordinating and/or participating in discussions with others on campus, such as faculty members, or in the broader community, that become involved in the provision of accommodations.

• Guides students in making applications to appropriate funding sources to have costs associated with the provision of accessibility-related services and technology paid for.

• In cooperation with the students, develops accommodation plans that outline appropriate services and associated costs. Supports students in completing government forms, and, as required, in liaising with provincial, national and international governments representatives responsible for financial support students with disabilities.

• University degree and expertise in accessibility-related career and adult education issues.

• Understanding of the impact and interplay of a wide range of conditions and disabilities relative to reasonable accommodations, human rights legislation, employment equity, program and physical accessibility, adaptive technologies, and other accessibility-related issues. Particular knowledge of impact of disabilities on individuals in their roles as students.

• Leadership Skills: Ability to define goals and gain cooperation in meeting them through collaboration, negotiation, de-escalation, and conflict resolution skills. Group presentation and facilitation skills.

• Extensive experience in working with people with disabilities.

• Understanding of physical and program barriers that can face students with disabilities and what policies, law, and human rights legislation support remedies to such barriers.

• Knowledge of government programs and funding choices for people with disabilities.
