Position: Seniors Active Living Centre (SALC) Recreation Assistant
Position Type: Full-time, Contract, In-Person
Duration: 8 weeks
Compensation: $17.60 hourly
Hours of Work: 35 hours per week
Report to: Living Well Manager

Position Summary:
Provides support to different activities of day programs and assists to seniors with programs and activities that aim to strengthen their strength, mobility and promote brain health.

Responsibilities:

  • Assists SALC Recreation Coordinators (RCs) to plan programs for seniors to support inclusive and fun learning and participation, reducing social isolation.
  • Assists SALC RCs in running programs for seniors either in-person or virtually
  • Supports SALC attendance and registration processes
  • Supports the promotion and customer service of SALC, including the processing of two promotional and customer appreciation contest entries
  • Assists with analysis of program participants’ feedback from SurveyMonkey and shares recommendations for improvements.

Education:

  • Post-secondary education or pursuing education in Social Services, Gerontology, Recreation, etc.

Skills & Experience:

  • Basic understanding of social, recreational or therapeutic programs an asset
  • Experience and interest or training in music, crafts, arts or adapted therapeutic activities
  • Ability to interact with seniors who are frail, confused or experiencing dementia
  • Ability to do physical work such as lifting, pushing wheelchairs, and assisting seniors with sitting, standing and bending

Requirements:
To be eligible, applicants must:

  • Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of employment
  • Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment. Please note that international students are not eligible to apply.
  • Have a Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be entitled to work in Canada in accordance with provincial legislation and regulations.
