Juno Engineering is an industrial engineering consulting firm supporting complex energy and infrastructure work. Our instrumentation team delivers measurement and control systems for brownfield revamps and greenfield developments.
The role
Juno is hiring a Junior Instrumentation Engineer to support instrumentation design deliverables on industrial energy projects. Working under the guidance of senior engineers and the Team Lead, you will assist with instrument sizing and specification, prepare and update design documents, coordinate discipline and vendor interfaces, and support field execution and as-built closeout.
What you'll do
This role follows Juno engineering procedures and quality checklists. Safety and technical quality come first.
Instrumentation design deliverables
Assist with instrument sizing and selection; prepare instrument data sheets and supporting calculations for review. Update P&IDs, loop diagrams, and hook-up/installation details under guidance; assist with control narratives and cause-and-effect documentation. Maintain the instrument index and related schedules; prepare MTO, material requisition, and construction work package inputs.
Project & vendor interface
Assist with technical inquiries, vendor document review, and technical bid evaluations for instrumentation packages. Support Automation Services in maintaining PLC/DCS I/O lists and confirming marshalling, signal, and communications requirements. Participate in vendor meetings and FAT/SAT activities as assigned; document actions and support closure of technical items. Track assigned deliverables and actions; escalate scope changes, technical uncertainties, schedule risks, and field issues early.
Quality & continuous improvement
Apply Juno standards, templates, and calculation tools; complete self-checks and QA/QC checklists before submitting work for review. Incorporate review comments accurately; maintain discipline libraries and help improve templates and workflows. Capture lessons learned and share technical knowledge with the instrumentation team.
What you bring
Education & Experience
Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Chemical, Mechanical, Mechatronics, or related engineering from a CEAB-accredited program, or an equivalent degree acceptable to APEGA. 0-3 years of relevant instrumentation, controls, or industrial project experience; co-op, internship, or field experience in energy or industrial facilities is an asset. Eligible for registration as an Engineer-in-Training (E.I.T.) with APEGA, or able to obtain registration within a reasonable timeframe. Exposure to consulting, operating facilities, vendor packages, procurement, construction, or commissioning is an asset.
Technical skills
Foundational knowledge of industrial measurement principles, including flow, pressure, temperature, level, and analytical instrumentation. Familiarity with P&IDs, data sheets, instrument indexes, I/O lists, loop diagrams, hook-up details, and basic instrument sizing or selection. Basic knowledge of PLC/DCS systems, control signals, and hazardous areas; comfortable with Microsoft Office, CAD/PDF mark-up, and document systems.

Organized and dependable; manages assigned tasks and deadlines with guidance. Clear communicator who asks focused questions and raises technical issues early. Detail-focused and quality-minded; follows procedures and checks work carefully. Collaborative, curious, and solutions-oriented; committed to learning and continuous improvement.
Working environment
Calgary-based role (5 days/week in office). Occasional field trips (up to 10%) to industrial sites; must wear required PPE.
