Position Overview Reporting to the Product Development Manager, Hubs, the Mechanical Engineer II is responsible for delivering detailed and conceptual engineering designs for automotive components, with a strong focus on rotating equipment, rolling element systems, and mechanical performance reliability. This role provides technical leadership within the Product Development team, conducting design analysis, evaluating failure modes, improving product robustness, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives across the engineering lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities Product Research & Development
- Develop detailed specifications, 3D models, and conceptual engineering drawings.
- Validate engineering designs with peers prior to release to contract manufacturers.
- Address and resolve supplier engineering concerns related to mechanical fit, function, and manufacturability.
- Document all Engineering Design Requests (EDRs) and Engineering Change Requests (ECRs).
- Research vehicle platforms using internal engineering databases and digital tools.
- Prepare and update DFMEA, DVP&R, and engineering standards with a focus on mechanical durability and failure mitigation.
Quality & Reliability Engineering
- Perform root cause analysis (RCA) on mechanical failures including rotating components, bearing systems, and wheel-end assemblies.
- Review and re-evaluate existing products to identify opportunities for performance improvement.
- Analyze and interpret mechanical testing data to verify improvements in design robustness and component life.
- Support validation testing, including load, vibration, fatigue, and environmental durability testing.
Ideal Qualifications Technical Skills
- Proficiency with AutoCAD, Autodesk Mechanical, or other 2D CAD software.
- Proficiency with Autodesk Inventor or comparable 3D CAD platforms.
- Experience with Finite Element Analysis (FEA) is considered an asset.
- Experience with Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems.
- Experience configuring Autodesk Vault is an asset.
- Knowledge of mechanical testing techniques (hardness, metallurgy, tensile testing).
- Strong understanding of APQP, validation planning, and automotive product development processes.
- Proficiency in GD&T (ASME Y14.5).
- Strong Microsoft Office skills.

- Ability to interpret and create complex mechanical drawings.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem‑solving skills.
- Effective project management and task prioritization abilities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication.
- Proven ability to collaborate across engineering, quality, and supplier teams.
Physical Demands and Working Conditions

Standard working hours, following the company’s hybrid schedule: 4 days in the office and 1 day working from home.
