About Islanders Working Against Violence
Islanders Working Against Violence (IWAV) is a non-profit organization dedicated to building safety, stability, and belonging across the Southern Gulf Islands. For more than 30 years, IWAV has provided essential services and housing for women, children, and community members impacted by violence, abuse, and poverty.
Our programs include a 24-hour crisis line, a Transition House for women and children fleeing violence, second-stage housing at The Cedars, outreach and counselling services, and ongoing prevention and education initiatives. We also develop and manage affordable housing to address the root causes of violence and instability—because safe, affordable housing is the foundation of safety and well-being.
IWAV currently operates 74 units of affordable housing at Croftonbrook and is now raising funds to purchase the Norton Road property to expand housing and services even further. Through partnerships, advocacy, and community care, we work toward a future where everyone can live free from violence and fear.
Our vision is a community where all people live safely, freely, and with dignity. Our mission is to support, empower, and advocate for those affected by gender-based violence and housing insecurity, and to lead change that fosters equality, compassion, and connection.
Programs & Services:
- 24/7 Crisis Line and Transition House
- Second-Stage Housing and Outreach Services
- Affordable Housing Development & Management
- Counselling, Advocacy, and Prevention Education
- Community Engagement and Partnerships
Together, we are breaking the cycle of poverty and abuse—creating pathways to safety, healing, and home.
