OPSE08 $42.16/hr $51.98/hr

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Reporting to the Manager of Cardiopulmonary Services, the primary function of a Cardiac Sonographer is to perform 2 or 3 dimensional & M-mode echocardiography, colour flow imaging and Doppler cardiac diagnostic testing and assessment on both inpatients and outpatients in various areas of the hospital while ensuring productivity, economy and safety are maintained.
  • Triaging of cardiac patient referrals in consultation with staff cardiologist when there are competing priorities.
  • Perform in-service education to hospital personnel, clinical training and evaluations of diagnostic cardiac sonography and respiratory therapy students, and act as a resource person on various aspects of cardiac ultrasound.
  • Be fully knowledgeable of his/her responsibilities under the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations, the Hospital’s Infection Control Policies, as well as the Accreditation Canada Echocardiography Quality Improvement (EQI) Program requirements and work in compliance with those provisions to create an environment conducive to the health and safely of the Hospital’s staff, patients and visitors.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Graduated from a recognized college with an accredited program in Cardiac Ultrasound or have equivalent knowledge gained through work experience and educational courses
  • Must be registered with College of Medical Radiation and Imaging Technologists of Ontario (CMRITO)
  • Must adhere to their regulatory body’s code of ethics, continuing professional development, professional Liability Insurance requirement and maintain his/her professional membership annually in order to keep abreast of new developments in the field
  • Must be highly motivated and exhibit a high degree of initiative
