Job Description RESEARCH INSTITUTE OF THE MUHC The Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre (RI-MUHC) is a world-renowned biomedical and hospital research centre. Located in Montreal, Quebec, the Institute is the research arm of the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC) affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine at McGill University. The RI-MUHC is supported in part by the Fonds de recherche du Québec - Santé (FRQS).
Position Summary The mission of Clinical and Health Informatics Research Group at McGill University is to advance clinical and population health through the development, implementation, and evaluation of innovative software.
Activities of the research group focus on the development of novel software solutions and the maintenance and evolution of existing innovative medical informatics software systems.
The incumbent reports to the development project team leader. The successful candidate will:
- Have an end-to-end vision,
- Participate in application software design,
- Develop complex business logic modules,
- Demonstrate good knowledge of the technology used to implement solutions,
- Make informed decisions,
- Effectively interact within team members and with external resources to identify the best approaches to accomplish assigned tasks.
General Duties
- React / JavaScript Frontend Development – Hands-on experience building and maintaining applications using React (or other modern JavaScript frameworks), including seamless integration with backend APIs,
- UI Mock-ups & Styling – Strong skills in designing and implementing UI mockups using HTML, CSS, and frameworks like Bootstrap (or TailwindCSS), ensuring responsive and accessible designs,
- Java & Spring Boot (Plus) – Knowledge of Java and Spring Boot is a strong advantage, particularly for backend service development and integration,
- Software design – Collaborate in software design by providing possible design suggestions and solutions to functional requirements through an iterative requirement discovery process,
- Business logic implementation – Integrate solutions into new or existing systems,
- Web UI Integration and design – Integrate application interfaces per specification into new or existing frameworks/applications,
- Testing and quality assurance –ensure that the implementation of functional logic matches the specification. Required to code test units that will run in a continuous integration environment.

Education: Bachelor's Degree
Field of Study: Software Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics or related discipline, or equivalent work experience and technical training
Work Experience: 5 years of experience required for the position.

- Taking initiative with proactive solution creation in mind,
- The ability to abstract general principles from specifics,
- A strong desire to establish and respect Standards of Best Practice,
- Recognition of the value of robust software design patterns,
- Flexible and open-minded, ability to adjust to frequent changes in the client’s requirements, as requirements are discovered and clarified through agile iterations,
- Communication and presentation skills,
- A good team player.
Additional information
Status: Temporary, full time (35-hour workweek)
Pay Scale: $55,692.00 - $103,412.40. Commensurate with education and experience
Work Shift: Monday to Friday 9:00am to 5:00pm
Work Site: Hybrid
