Assistant Finance Manager
About the role
Central Services 37.5 hours weekly, year round Permanent position commencing as soon as a suitable candidate is found.
This role supports day-to-day accounting operations, school financial compliance, and month and year-end processes, while maintaining a high level of integrity, confidentiality, and accuracy. The position requires flexibility, strong technical skills, and a willingness to adapt to evolving systems and processes.
Salary range is $84,074.23 to $93,514.97 annually. Initial placement on the salary grid will be determined based on the successful candidate’s education and experience.
Key Duties And Responsibilities
- Oversee the accuracy and integrity of the general ledger and all financial records to ensure they are audit-ready at all times.
- Manage the full-cycle month-end ensuring all accounts are reconciled and departmental charges are accurately allocated.
- Monitor school financial reporting and budgets, providing high-level guidance to staff to ensure compliance with organizational standards.
- Prepare government reporting and statutory filings, including GST, T4A, WCB, and other reporting as required.
- Review and approve financial batches and journal entries prepared by schools, departments, and internal staff to ensure accuracy and policy compliance.
- General duties include but not limited to: digital filing financial records, updating, reviewing, and maintaining accounting databases.
- Identify and implement process improvements to enhance the efficiency and accuracy of financial reporting across the organization.
- Provide financial support to the finance team, schools, and departments, and perform other duties as required.
Qualifications
- A University Degree in Business Administration, Accounting, or a related field is required.
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting or financial operations experience, with a proven understanding of the full accounting cycle and fund accounting principles.
- Experience with accounting software required; PowerSchool Atrieve (or similar ERP) is a preferred asset, along with a strong willingness to learn.
- Rycor Fee Management, Atrieve, BMO Spend Dynamics experience is considered an asset.
- Proficient in Excel (intermediate to advanced), Google Workspace, and Adobe.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to provide financial guidance and support to school-based staff.
- Proven ability to manage a high volume of diverse tasks and deadlines simultaneously without losing accuracy.
- Proven ability to audit and validate financial data reported by third parties or satellite locations (schools).
- Strong problem solving and organizational skills.
- Independent and self-motivated worker.
