##Scope
The City of Surrey's Recreation Division is committed to build healthy communities where all individuals are active and engaged for life. As part of that commitment, we're looking for Lifeguards / Swim Instructors to help ensure the community can enjoy our facilities in a safe and comfortable environment.
This position encompasses both lifeguarding and swim Instructing. Our Lifeguards/Swim Instructors supervise the safety of swimmers in our facilities and provide exceptional customer service, high-quality learn-to-swim instruction and fun and interactive public swim programming. ##Responsibilities
- Develop and teach high-quality swim lesson programs for participants of all ages
- Maintain accurate, up-to-date progress sheets and participant records including evaluations
- Performs lifeguarding duties in according to Provincial regulations and Surrey's guidelines
- Monitor patron activities, enforce safety regulations, maintain order in the pool and deck areas
- Provide First Aid treatment
- Help maintain a clean, safe and welcoming environment
- Demonstrate appropriate behaviours in line with our City values
- Performs other related duties as required
##Qualifications
Completion of Grade 10 at time of application plus formal Lifeguard and Swim Instructor training
Current Certificates in the following:
- Lifesaving Society Swim Instructor (SI)
- National Lifeguard - Pool Option (NL)
- Standard First Aid with CPR C and AED (Intermediate First Aid)
Meets the requirements to be a lifeguard under the BC Public Health Act Pool Regulations.
Candidates must successfully complete a rigorous screening process, including:
- Physical standards testing
- First aid diagnostic and treatment
- National Lifeguard standards
- Swim For Life instructing skill
Applicants must provide valid certificates at the time of application. In addition, proof of awards and documentation confirming completion of Grade 10 must be uploaded with the application. Applications missing any of these required documentsmaynot be considered.

Hourly Rate: $25.85 (2024 rate)
