Competitive Rate of Pay: $29.31/hour

In this role, you'll contribute by supporting field technicians in the construction, operation, and maintenance of the electric distribution system. You'll gain valuable experience working alongside skilled professionals, participating in our safety program and doing meaningful work for the reliable delivery of electricity all the while building a solid foundation for a career in the utility or trades environment.

What you'll do
As an Electric Utility Helper, you'll support the installation, maintenance, and repair of the City's electrical distribution assets while working safely as part of a skilled operations team. Your responsibilities will include:
- Assisting with electric distribution system installation, maintenance, and repairs – including poles, cabletransformers.
- Operating and maintaining tools, vehicles, and equipment.
- Performing routine preventative maintenance on tools, trailers, and equipment.
- Carrying out minor repairs, cleaning, and general maintenance tasks at the shop.
- Accurately accounting and charging out materials from City stores.
- Following all safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements.
What you bring
- A strong commitment to safety, consistently following safe work practices and procedures while working around electrical systems and equipment.
- A teamfirst mindset, with the ability to work cooperatively in a supportive, handson environment.
- Clear communication skills, including the ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
- Physical ability and practical skills to perform manual work in all weather conditions, including lifting, standing for extended periods, and using hand and power tools.
- A willingness to learn, with an interest in developing new skills related to electrical utility operations and participating in ongoing training.
- A positive attitude, with a desire to contribute, take pride in your work, and reflect the City's values in how you show up every day.
Qualifications
- Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent.
- Some experience in general labour, preferably in an electrical field.
- Possess a valid Alberta Class 3 Operator's License with acceptable driving record.
- Equivalent combination of management approved training and experience may be considered.
- This position has been identified as Safety Sensitive and requires the completion of a satisfactory pre-employment drug screen, which includes testing for cannabis use.
