Why WestJet:

Every WestJet journey has the potential to enrich lives; a career with us is no exception.

WestJet arrived on the Canadian airline scene in 1996 and changed the industry for the better. We made air travel more affordable for Canadians and now we're going global.

Join us, this is where your career story takes off.

Overview of role:

Our team delivers business value by building and evolving digital products across AI-enabled solutions and application development, supported by strong data and analytics foundations. We act as trusted advisors to business partners, helping identify high-impact opportunities, shape product strategy, and translate complex needs into clear, actionable plans for delivery teams. Reporting to the Senior Manager, you will bridge technical and business worlds by framing real-world problems, defining outcomes and success measures, and guiding delivery from discovery through launch and continuous improvement.

You will work closely with cross-functional teams, including software engineering, data engineering, architecture, cyber/security, data governance, external collaborators, and business stakeholders, to prioritize opportunities, define product strategy and requirements, and communicate progress and results. You’ll be expected to bring a consulting mindset: quickly understanding business context, asking the right questions, synthesizing inputs, and recommending practical paths forward. To be successful in this role, you should bring strong stakeholder-management skills, experience as a product owner/product manager (or similar), and enough technical fluency to collaborate effectively with engineers and data/AI specialists. You are known for your creative approach to problem solving, comfort with ambiguity, and ability to communicate clearly to both delivery teams and leadership.

Key deliverables include:

  • Lead discovery with business partners to define problem statements, outcomes, hypotheses, and business cases; ensure initiatives align to strategic objectives and drive measurable business value.

  • Own the scope, requirements, user stories, acceptance criteria, and success metrics for assigned products

  • Facilitate workshops, map customer/user journeys, and align stakeholders on the “why/what/how” while managing expectations and incorporating feedback throughout delivery.

  • Provide end-to-end project delivery leadership: develop and maintain delivery plans, timelines, and milestones; proactively manage scope, budget, risks, dependencies, and trade-offs to deliver on commitments.

  • For AI/analytics initiatives, partner with data/AI teams to define data needs, model/service expectations, evaluation criteria, and an operationalization approach (including monitoring and lifecycle considerations).

  • For application initiatives, collaborate with engineering and architecture to define solution approaches, integration points (APIs), non-functional requirements (security, performance, reliability), and release readiness.

  • Define and coordinate testing/validation strategies appropriate to the solution (e.g., UAT, dashboard validation, API testing, model evaluation) to ensure quality, reliability, and performance.

  • Communicate product direction and progress clearly to cross-functional teams and leadership; use data analysis and storytelling to explain performance, insights, and recommendations.

  • Contribute to product/process standards and ways of working (e.g., requirements templates, definition of done, playbooks) and champion continuous improvement in Agile practices and tools.

  • Lead by influence: coach/mentor team members where appropriate, foster collaboration, and help remove blockers in a fast-paced, changing environment.

Experience and qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (Business, Computer Science, Economics, Statistics, etc.) or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years’ experience, including a minimum of 3 years as a Product Owner / Technical Product Manager (or closely related role).
  • Proven track record of delivering digital initiatives that create measurable business impact.
Strong stakeholder management and communication skills, including the ability to synthesize input, influence decisions, and communicate product vision and trade-offs to leadership.
  • Technical fluency with the ability to collaborate effectively with engineers, architects, and data/AI specialists (hands-on technical experience is an asset but not required).
  • Exposure to one or more of the following domains: AI-enabled solutions, data platforms/engineering, and/or application development (web/mobile/API-based services).
  • Analytical mindset with strong problem solving, adaptability, and strategic thinking abilities.

The following are considered strong assets:

  • Agile Product Owner, Scrum Master, or SAFe certification.

  • Project management training or certification (e.g., PMP/PRINCE2) and/or demonstrated experience leading delivery to scope, schedule, and budget.

  • Experience with JIRA and common product delivery tooling (e.g., Confluence, Azure DevOps).

  • Exposure to AI/ML concepts and delivery (e.g., model evaluation, prompt-based solutions, MLOps/monitoring concepts, responsible AI practices).

  • Hands-on experience with analytics/BI tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau) and/or SQL.

  • Prior experience working for an airline.
