Toyota Canada Inc. (TCI) currently has an exciting opportunity for a Manager, Logistics Planning, Strategy & Systems to support our Vehicle Logistics team. This is a full-time opportunity and will report to the National Manager, Vehicle Logistics.
The selected candidate will lead Toyota Canada’s participation with Toyota Affiliates in all Vehicle Logistics optimization or project-based studies, encompassing current/future sales volume, inland freight costs and opportunities to increase network fluidity, reduce costs.
They will be responsible for managing Business Partner contract process and scheduling including set-up, renew, amendment, required studies, input, gain Executive approvals.
They will lead all major logistics studies, network or market capacity analysis, projects, systems enhancements with support of Vehicle Logistics Managers and external Business Partners (ICL, Ahearn, Rail or Truck carrier partners) ensuring network capacity and performing continued PDCA of major projects, financial or related KPI’s (Inland freight, selling expense, ETA’s) to verify merit, accuracy and close gaps. Also, they will provide support to Vehicle Processing Centre’s (VPC’s) on all kaizen or innovation efforts.

What You’ll be Doing:
- Leads TCI’s participation with all Toyota Affiliates in NA optimization studies, new production plant set-up, vehicle sourcing changes and NA port studies. Collaborates and obtains all necessary input, consensus from Logistics section managers or related business units
- Manages the Logistics Business Partners contracts process/scheduling whether a new partner set-up, contract renewal, amendment, coordinate input, support required cost studies w/ Logistic management, legal, tax, purchasing and obtain Executive approvals to execute contracts
- Manages all major logistics studies, network or market capacity studies, project related tasks with support of Logistics Business Partners (ICL, Ahearn, Rail or Truck carrier partners) to ensure capacity of TCI’s logistic network can support current/future sales growth including specific developing market conditions ensuring industry leading vehicle fluidity
- Vehicle Logistics IT system lead (VLMS, YMS, SAP, AI). Analyzes contemplated system developments or changes in terms of feasibility, desired objectives, overall impact and cost/benefits to ensure desired outcome. Liaises with TCI IS department to ensure compatibility with SAP systems. Provides systems support to all sections within Vehicle Logistics and manages ICL allocated banked development hours, deployments
- Responsible for developing and negotiating the Vehicle Logistics dept FY IT CAPEX and OPEX budgets incl developing supporting background and rationale for dept’s requests, then leading/managing deployment of noted Capital funds
- Collaborates with TLS USA on potential commonality of system concepts and development, innovations, evaluates all opportunities, benchmarking, or any areas of cost savings through joint common development
- Supports all planning system upgrades, developments and testing of systems new or existing related to the operational excellence of the Vehicle Logistics VPC’s, user groups, including seeking new innovative technologies to pilot
- Responsible for the measurement and accuracy of TCI Vehicle Logistics ETA’s (on-time accuracy) and adherence to established KPI’s and targets. Leads process of investigation with direct reports to determine root cause or opportunities with inaccuracy or gaps and works within Vehicle Logistics team to identify and rectify issues. Leads external discussions, enhancements and other impactful department opportunities and communications w/SIP, DSSO, Zones
- Manages the determination and calculation of TCI’s Inland Freight and Selling Expenses by specific car line. Ensures accuracy in calculation and tracking of logistical expenses for all plant or port sources. Reports same to required internal departments (e.g. PPD, F&A) at specific timelines for incorporation into TCI Vehicle pricing. Conducts quarterly PDCA of costs and reports on any accuracy gaps and answer questions related to costs whether PPD, F&A or TMC/TMNA
- Leads TCI vehicle transportation damage identification and reporting. Analyses TCI vehicle transit damage events by source and carrier to determine trends. Report same to Logistics Transportation department and acquire/set target to improve. Collaborate sharing TCI data with TLS to determine common ground and joint damage prevention opportunities
- Promotes the development of Kaizen ideas for the department, whether VPC’s or Business Partners. Promotes concepts throughout the year and specifically at Logistics annual performance program end
- Supports Vehicle Logistics FY Hoshin development process. Organizes process of soliciting key required objectives jointly with Logistics Management team, prepares documents and helps monitor progress towards objectives, targets
- Prepares annual budgets; Operating Expense, Facilities and IT capital budgets for department and monthly tracking for Dept’s 15 (VL), 94(TVPC) & 96(MVPC)
- Leader for managing the Finished Vehicle Logistics Green House Gas reporting program to support TCI required regulatory compliance, reporting same through Regulatory & Environmental Affair into TMNA North America. Responsible for negotiating and setting TCI’s overall Vehicle Logistics CO2 annual reduction targets with TMNA/TMC, ensuring compliance working with section Managers for input
- Manages participation, support for Corporate Fa05 committee to ensure that Vehicle Logistics meets or exceeds TMC required guidelines
- Monitors operational Key Performance Indicators and communicates them with Vehicle Logistics dept or other parties.
- Other studies and duties as business may dictate
People Management
- Provide timely guidance, coaching, feedback, and accountability for direct reports to drive learning & development and successful project completion
- Lead team members to foster collaboration, understanding, support & Kaizen (continuous improvement) resulting in work efficiencies
- Empower the team to take initiative and proactively influence the business
What You’ll Bring:
- College/University degree/diploma or equivalent in Engineering, Computer Systems or Finished Vehicle Logistics
- 7 years related work experience in Automotive or similar in the manufacturing industry
- Advanced Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and TPS, PDCA, A3, TBP report writing
- Strong leadership, analytical and problem-solving skills
- Proven ability to quickly understand, initiate & improve work processes to increase efficiencies
- Excellent communication skills – oral, written & presentation
- Excellent team leadership and mentoring skills
- Good working knowledge of SAP, VLMS and YMS systems
