BC Assessment is currently seeking a permanentFinancial Analystto join our Finance team in our Victoria office.

What you’ll get to do

Reporting to theSenior Financial Analyst, and as a key member of the Accounting and Reporting team, theFinancial Analystcollaborates regularly with all Finance Division team members. In this role, you will administer financial processes and procedures, reconcile and analyze financial data, and prepare a variety of internal and external reports. You will support Senior Financial Analysts and Managers with regulatory reporting, financial analyses, and strategic recommendations, while also resolving escalated issues or referring complex and precedent-setting matters to senior staff as appropriate.

This role also serves as a trusted resource for financial advice and guidance to BCA staff across the organization.

In this role, you will:

  • Execute accounting transactions in the financial system, including the preparation of journal entries, account reconciliations, and period-end close activities.
  • Administer contracts, process invoices, and verify accuracy, reasonableness and adherence to contractual terms and organizational policies.
  • Process, reconcile, and analyze financial information to ensure the integrity and accuracy of financial records.
  • Analyze and maintain historical financial data to supportinternal and external financial reporting requirements, including regulatory submissions.
  • Investigate outstanding balances, identify and correct errors and omissions, and proactively communicate concerns to senior financial staff.
  • Respond to financial inquiries from internal and external clients, provide detailed information, analyses, and recommendations in a timely manner.
  • Monitor and enforce compliance with financial policies, internal controls, and applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Research financial best practices, emerging trends, and benchmarks to inform process improvements and strategic recommendations.
  • Operate and optimize the use of corporate financial management information systems, including Workday.
  • Identify opportunities and develop recommendations for enhancements to business processes and internal controls.
  • Participate in the preparation of year-end working papers and support external audit requirements.
  • Provide cross-functional coverage for other positions within Financial Operations, including payroll and procurement, as required.

This position is included in the bargaining unit.

-**Location:**Victoria, BC -Compensation:$65,466.34-$76,927.30 -**Competition Close Date:**Sunday, April 12th @ 11:59PM

-The compensation range above is based on the salary schedule outlined in the CUPE 1767 Collective Agreement. Successful candidates typically start at the minimum of the range (Step 1), with the opportunity to receive an increment after 12 months of service.

What you bring to the team

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting or a related discipline and at least one year related work experience;
    OR
  • Diploma in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting or a related discipline, and three years of related work experience
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Preference may be given to candidates that are actively working towards completion of a professional accounting designation (CPA).

Experience

  • Related work experience with increasing levels of financial responsibility.
  • Experience in developing financial reports, preparing budgets, and implementing new procedures.
  • Experience with computerized financial systems in a mid-to large sized organization.
  • Experience in implementing and supporting a variety of financial operations, systems, services, etc.
