Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the ongoing development and refinement of our solar racking product, ensuring it meets structural, geotechnical, environmental and customer-specific requirements. Have a strong grasp of geotechnical and structural principles such as foundation design and loads, frost/heave and wind, snow and sand conditions on static and dynamic structures.
  • Collaborate with customers (typically construction and engineering professionals) to iterate site and module-specific designs, incorporating local climatic and geotechnical data into the mounting system design.
  • Utilize Autocad, SolidWorks and SolidWorks PDM Manager to create and manage detailed engineering designs, site layouts, and Issued for Construction (IFC) drawing packages. Manage all key product documentation including Product manuals, installation guides, datasheets, QA/QC forms, commissioning and warranty cards.
  • Work with our internal team of design and structural engineers, as well as external structural and geotechnical consulting engineers and clients, to finalize designs and secure stamped engineering drawing packages.
  • Act as the primary technical point of contact for customers, addressing inquiries, managing Requests for Information (RFIs), and coordinating submittals during construction.
  • Partner with the supply chain team to ensure timely delivery of the racking product to project sites, maintaining alignment with customer timelines and expectations.
  • Perform quality checks during and after installation to ensure the product is installed correctly, meets design specifications, and complies with our warranty requirements.
  • Identify opportunities to enhance design workflows, product performance, and customer satisfaction through innovative engineering solutions.
  • Create and run structural automated calculations driven from Excel into RISA/SAAP 2000 & CFS to calculate member sizes and reaction loads based on the Wind tunnel study.
  • Perform environmental loading calculations using the appropriate building code for the jurisdiction (OBC, NBC, ASCE).
  • Be a subject matter expert on local codes and regulations regarding Solar PV mounting in the areas that Polar Racking is active in

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Structural Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
