About You / What We Are Looking For

Our Community Safety Department is currently recruiting for one regular full-time and one regular part-time Bylaw Clerk to join our administrative team at the Coquitlam Animal Shelter. If you are a detail oriented, administrative professional, passionate about delivering exceptional customer service in a fast-paced environment, this may be the job for you!

Reporting to the Customer Service Supervisor, the Bylaw Clerk will play a pivotal role in assisting with administrative duties within the Bylaw Enforcement Division, including:

  • Receiving and responding to bylaw complaints through email, in-person and on the phone;
  • Determine as an appointed screening officer whether a ticket should be cancelled or upheld;
  • Coordinate adjudication hearings including the preparation and distribution of related materials;
  • Provide customer service including accurately explaining regulations and policies;
  • Accurately maintaining and updating departmental records, including creating complaint files and keeping accurate notes.

The successful incumbent must demonstrate impartial decision making, have a keen eye for detail, the ability to handle confidential and politically sensitive information with the discretion and diplomacy, and be able to effectively prioritize and deliver tasks on time. In addition, this incumbent will provide administrative support to more senior level staff. Proficiency in intermediate computer skills, including the use of the Microsoft Office suite, is a requirement for this position.

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must possess at minimum 12th grade education and hold a valid BC Class 5 Drivers licence or equivalent.

Preferred Qualifications

Additional education in Office Administration supplemented by commercial course work, as well as previous experience working within a regulatory, public sector, or municipal environment would be considered an asset.

What We Offer:

This CUPE position has an hourly rate range of $31.77 - $37.32. The rate of pay is based on a variety of factors including qualifications, knowledge, experience and skills.

Additionally, there is an opportunity to participate in an earned day off program. The City offers an attractive vacation and extended benefits package, including the ability to contribute to the Municipal Pension Plan.

The hours of work for the regular full-time role are anticipated to be Sunday 11-7, Monday 1-9, and Wednesday, Thursday, Friday 10-6. The hours for the regular part-time role are Thursday 1-9, Friday 1-9, Saturday 11-7.
