Role Description This full-time, on-site Mechanical Estimator role is based in Burnaby,BC. The Mechanical Estimator is responsible for reviewing project plans and specifications, performing quantity take-offs, and preparing accurate cost estimates for mechanical systems including HVAC, plumbing, and piping. Day-to-day tasks include analyzing tender documents, requesting and evaluating subcontractor and supplier quotes, preparing bid proposals, and supporting negotiations with clients and partners. The role involves collaborating with project managers and engineers to clarify scope, identify risks, and track estimate assumptions, while maintaining up-to-date cost data and historical pricing. The Mechanical Estimator also assists in budget development, value engineering options, and post-award handover to project teams to support successful project delivery.

Qualifications

Experience with mechanical estimating for HVAC, plumbing, and piping systems, including quantity take-offs and cost breakdowns. Proficiency with estimating and construction software (e.g., MS Excel, estimating platforms) and strong general computer skills. Solid understanding of construction drawings, specifications, building codes, and mechanical industry standards. Strong analytical, numerical, and organizational skills, with attention to detail and accuracy in cost calculations. Effective communication and collaboration skills for working with internal teams, clients, suppliers, and subcontractors. Ability to manage multiple tenders and deadlines, prioritize tasks, and work independently in a fast-paced environment. Post-secondary education in mechanical engineering technology, construction management, or a related field, or equivalent experience. Previous experience in mechanical contracting or construction estimating is preferred; local market knowledge in BC is an asset.
