POSITION:

Lead Hand - Environmental Services

DEPARTMENT:

Environmental Services

CONDITIONS:

Temporary Full-time for approximately eight (8) months

HOURS:

Approximately 75.0 Bi-weekly Hours

SHIFTS:

Days / Weekends

7.5 & 11.25 hours per shift (subject to change)

WAGE RANGE:

Scale Minimum Maximum

CUPE07 $29.56/hr $31.85/hr

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Under the direction of the EVS Management Team, the Lead Hand provides guidance to EVS staff, and assists with the prioritization and coordination of their daily activities to support departmental goals and objectives.
  • Completes all cleaning in accordance with established procedures, utilizing chemicals in safe an accepted manner to ensure user and client safety while obtaining optimum cleaning results.
  • Provides technical guidance, support and training to EVS staff on the performance of their responsibilities.
  • Contribute to the planning and implementation of staff development opportunities/in-services.
  • Assist with the orientation and training of new employees to the department.
  • Advise EVS Manager or Supervisor of significant operational problems
  • Liaise on a daily basis with the EVS Supervisor and Manager to discuss operational issues and service requests, to ensure that they are responded to in a timely manner.
  • Maintain a safe physical environment by reporting potential safety hazards and by monitoring preventative maintenance service.
  • Conduct audits on areas throughout the Hospital to ensure activities are completed in accordance with departmental standards and re-instruct staff as required.
  • Participate in programs to support quality care such as Quality Improvement, Patient Centred Care and Occupational Health and Safety.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Minimum 5+ years Environmental Services experience in patient and non-patient areas in healthcare institution
  • Grade 12 education
  • Demonstrated leadership/facilitation skills and experience
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational and teaching skills
  • Proven ability in independent and collaborative decision making
  • Demonstrated knowledge of EVS Department operations and equipment
  • Excellent knowledge of all required cleaning techniques
  • Demonstrated ability to safely operate all applicable pieces of equipment and to use all chemicals required for assigned duties
  • Ability to independently assess, prioritize and adjust routines in accordance with patient/unit activity and multiple/simultaneous requests

PREFERRED:

  • Previous Lead Hand or supervisory experience an asset
