Overview of the role:

Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, the Maintenance, Licensed Electrician is responsible for the installation and maintenance of electrical, instrumentation, mechanical and automation systems, common to a dairy operation. This role requires hands-on execution which blends working on the floor directly with equipment and operators, as well as tactful time in the shop rebuilding and repairing.

Schedule: Midnight 8/hour shifts 11pm-7:30am, Sunday to Thursday off Friday & Saturday.

Salary: Licensed: Probationary Rate (90 working days) – $44.02;

Licensed Top Rate – $46.34*

*A seventy-five cents ($0.75) per hour premium for all hours worked to all Employees classified as maintenance is applied in addition to the base hourly rate

**Additional shift premiums apply for all hours worked during premium shift times

*** Tool Allowance shall be paid to the Maintenance employees at the rate of eight hundred and thirty ($830) dollars

How you will make contributions that matter:

  • Repair and maintenance of filling machines, pasteurizing process systems, packaging systems and conveyers common to a dairy operation
  • Carries out electrical equipment modifications
  • Completes preventative maintenance on assigned equipment
  • Troubleshoots and repairs electrical equipment in breakdown situations to ensure production efficiencies are achieved
  • Read and interpret drawings, blueprints, schematics and manuals to determine layout of industrial electrical equipment installations
  • Test electrical and electronic equipment and components for continuity, current, voltage and resistance
  • Maintain communication on a constant basis with plant personnel
  • Work well with, and support, peer group, other departments and facility as a whole
  • Follow all GMP’s and work in a manner consistent with all corporate and regulatory quality and sanitation requirements
  • Comply and ensure all work is performed safely while following OH&S, WSIB, and company policies and procedures
  • Perform other duties, as assigned, by Maintenance Supervisor or Maintenance Manager

You are best suited for the role if you have the following qualifications:

  • Must hold a 442A Industrial Electrician Certificate of Qualification
    • Must provide a Skilled Trades Ontario Red Seal Certification of Qualification and/or an Interprovincial Red Seal Endorsement Certificate
  • Minimum 3 years of electro-mechanical in an industrial/manufacturing setting and PLC
  • Minimum 1 year of experience related to food industry, preferably dairy, or high-speed process equipment or packaging experience
    • Demonstrates solid Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), understanding and compliance. Knowledge of Food Safety Systems would be an asset;
  • Extensive experience with electromechanical preventative maintenance and troubleshoot of high-speed automated packaging equipment
  • Strong understanding of all applicable Electrical – Mechanical – Safety Provincial Codes.
  • Instrumental knowledge with pressure, temperature, flow controls, calibrations and programing
  • Advanced electromechanical and technical aptitude;
  • Knowledge and experience with PLC controls and programming systems. Allen Bradley an asset;
  • Ability to work in a highly automated environment.
  • PC Windows based O/S experience an asset;
  • High level of self-motivation and initiative, and results-oriented, with excellent trouble shooting skills;
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Ability to work independently with minimum supervision
  • Highly motivated, results orientated, team player
  • Dependable with a good attendance and safety record
  • Strong written and oral communication skills in English
  • Ability to support all shifts (days and afternoons), incl. weekends and overtime, and/or being on call.
