Position Details
The University of Lethbridge Faculty of Fine Arts is accepting applications for a full-time, 9-month Limited Term, Fine Arts Technician 10 with an approximate start-date of October 6, 2025.
Reporting to the Faculty of Fine Arts Operations Manager, the Fine Arts Scene Shop and Props Assistant is a member of a skilled technical team, participating in the efficient and safe operation of the Scene and Properties Shops, performance spaces, classrooms, and storage areas. This position is responsible for assisting with the production of scenic and props elements for theatrical and music productions. The Scene Shop and Props Assistant is responsible for the creation, acquisition, and inventorying of properties and scenic elements to support the delivery of academic programs in the Faculty of Fine Arts.
The position involves monitoring, demonstrating, and assisting student use of equipment and supporting learning at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.
Other tasks include recommending appropriate strategies for obtaining props, furniture, and set dressing; determining safe building methods; building approved designs; maintaining the departmental properties inventory; facilitating use of the properties inventory for delivery of curriculum; assisting in maintaining and cleaning assigned spaces; and implementing safety protocols in consultation with the Theatre Technical Coordinator.
Position Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have a minimum 2-year diploma from a recognized post-secondary institute in theatre technical training, and at least 2-year experience in the production of scenic elements and props. A suitable combination of education and experience may be considered.
The successful candidate should have the ability to perform manual duties, occasionally requiring strenuous physical exertion and lifting of 50lbs. The incumbent must possess a thorough knowledge of materials and processes related to scenic and props construction and must be able to train, assist and monitor students in the safe and efficient operation of a variety of different manual and mechanical tools related to these processes.
The successful candidate will have strong communication and teamwork skills within a collaborative environment and the ability to manage competing priorities while paying attention to details.
Given the nature of the course offerings and student work needs, this position will be required to work some evenings and weekends.
Starting Salary Range (at 1.0 FTE)
$4,691.00 - $5,246.00 monthly
Full Salary Range (at 1.0 FTE)
$4,691.00 - $5,799.00 monthly (AUPE - Grade 10)
