About the role

SUMMARY OF DUTIES

-Team Leadership and Development– Supervise, mentor and coach a team machinists and technicians, providing guidance, training and performance feedback to assure adherence to quality standards, health/safety/environmental protocols and company policies and procedures, to assure a highly skilled and motivated Team. When required, disciplines employees in a fair, consistent and constructive manner. And ensures all training requirements are up to date. -Production Management– Lead daily activities of the manufacturing cell including scheduling, resource allocation and workflow management to achieve production targets, including overseeing shift start-ups and ensuring consumable material levels are optimized to support the production schedule and manage costs. -Quality Assurance– Ensure adherence to company Quality Policies and Procedures, monitor cell throughput and maintain accurate production documentation and records to ensuring traceability and accountability for all manufacturing activities performed within the cell. Foster a strong culture of Quality. -Data and Reporting– Monitor cell throughput and other performance metrics and report on cell performance including root cause and corrective actions for deficiencies. Verifies and submits weekly hours worked within the cell, making adjustments as necessary to the payroll system (i.e. BaaN/UKG). -Health, Safety & Environment– Ensure a safe and environmentally compliant working environment is maintained at all times by enforcing company Health, Safety & Environment Policies and Procedures and promoting a culture of quality, safety awareness and compliance among team members. Ensures the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE). -Equipment and Maintenance– Monitor and maintain equipment and tooling within the cell – Perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting of equipment issues and coordinate with the Maintenance department to minimize downtime and maximize uptime. -Communication– Liaise with other departments to ensure the smooth flow of product and information throughout the facility and across shifts. This is especially important during New Product launches and during Root Cause & Corrective Action investigations. Forster and environment of collaboration. Communicate daily with employees via shift start up meetings and other touchpoints as required. -Continuous Improvement– Actively looks for and identify opportunities to improve cell efficiency and performance. Supports a work environment that encourages high performance by recognizing individual and team efforts. Intervenes/coaches in a timely fashion to address identified non-performance issues when necessary. -Additionally;

  • Participate in the recruitment/termination process.
  • Act as backup to the other Cell Leaders.
  • Comply with all Health & Safety requirements/supervisor responsibilities as set out in the OHSA.
  • Participate in weekly Schedule Adherence, Quality Review and Efficiency meetings.
  • Comply with all other Company policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties assigned by leadership.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED) required.
  • 7-10 years experience in a machine shop environment or equivalent.
  • 3+ years supervisory experience in manufacturing operations.
  • Self-starter, minimal supervision required.
  • Strong communication and listening skills – Effective in communicating in both one-on-one and in group environments.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Practical knowledge of Lean Six Sigma is an asset.

SKILLS

  • Ability to run the shop floor on a day to day basis in an efficient, safe and quality-conscious manner.
  • Ability to lead, direct and motivate employee to produce a high quality part in a positive, productive, safe and high quality manner.
  • Written and verbal communication skills.
