POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The Bob Rumball Canadian Centre of Excellence for the Deaf (BRCCED) is a provincial leader in the Deaf community. Working in the Children’s Mental Health program, and reporting to the Program Manager, this position is responsible for the day-to-day supervision, monitoring and counselling of clients currently residing in the Children’s Residential Treatment Home. The Program provides intensive community based- treatment options to individuals who are Deaf or hard of hearing, require a community-rich setting and who display complex behavioural, mental health and developmental needs.
PRIMARY DUTIES:
- Provide leadership in the development and implementation of assessments, goals, and treatment plans for individuals in care establishing norms and structure that provide for a safe and growth-focused environment
- Ensure supportive, safe, and predictable environment through the establishment of routines, limits and daily living skills
- Participate in conjunction with the Program Supervisor and Clinical Team in the development and implementation of therapeutic programming through trend and data analysis and pre-developed curricula that supports individual and group treatment goals
- Responds to crisis situations utilizing crisis intervention ,SMG techniques and individualized Behaviour Support Plan
- Lead and/or participate in treatment planning, service reviews, plan of care, program planning and evaluation meetings
- Coordinate multi-sector services and supports for individuals including community appointments, community activities, school/employment and/or special program events such as trips
- Engage in service planning with multi-disciplinary teams and professionals as it aligns with treatment goals
- Participate in activities of day to day residential care including personal hygiene routines, daily activity schedule, operational duties and administrative duties
- Engage in implementation of effective behaviour management strategies and provide supportive/motivational counselling as needed to individuals residing in home
- Provide effective management of caseload requirements and agency reporting expectations through data collection, trend analysis, client profile maintenance and documentation
- Physical activities including, but not limited to, lifting, bending and prolonged standing
- Varying schedule including days, evenings and weekends
- Responsible for the oversight and support of client daily activity schedule (including hygiene support, monitoring and safety checks)and day to day programming as it aligns with developed treatment plan; to ensure programming contributes to therapeutic and clinical goals and enhances individual’s overall wellbeing
- Adhere to cleaning and following program protocols that allow maintenance and general cleanliness over program site (including, but not limited to client laundry, cleaning of general program site areas, washroom, vehicle or where client areas take place etc).
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Diploma in Child and Youth work, Social Service Worker or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience and minimum two years working in a setting with individuals developmental disability, mental health needs, challenging behaviours and/or dual diagnosis
- Knowledge and experience working within the Deaf community and proficiency in ASL
- Demonstrated creative problem solving abilities, flexibility and adaptation to change
- Strong written skills and excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work collaboratively with youth, families, staff and colleagues and cross sector service partners
- Proven success in working alongside, or as part of a collaborative team towards client service goals
- Possess sound judgement, creativity, initiative, integrity and ability to set consistent and appropriate limits
- Demonstrated experience in computer literacy (Word, Excel, Outlook, Sharevision, Zoom, MS Teams and online e-learning platforms)
- Committed to helping youth within an Interdisciplinary team using individual and group processes, person-centred approach
- Mature and professional judgement in conflictual and high intensity situations
- Good standing or ability to obtain certification in; Quality Assurance Measures, Safe Management, Medication Administration, WHIMIS, First aid /CPR.
- Valid Ontario Full G Driver’s License and clean driving record (is an asset)
- French language/LSQ (is an asset)

From its starting point as a community recreation facility, the Bob Rumball Centre has expanded into offering a range of specialized services to those within the Deaf Community that require support. These include seniors’, those with developmental, physical, health, or mental health issues, infants and young children, and newcomers to Canada.
These programs and services are often unique, and offer the access to care, education, and socialization that improves quality of life for Deaf people.
