Maintenance Worker, Trades (Building Operator)
About the role
Under general direction from Supervisor Plant Operations and/or Charge Hand Plant Operations performs a wide variety of maintenance duties such as daily operation and repairs, maintenance and preventative maintenance of all building equipment and systems including but not restricted to steam boilers, hot water boilers, a/c units, potable water systems, compressed air and air handling systems.
The incumbent is responsible for quality work in a timely manner and ensuring that all duties are carried out in a safe and efficient manner and in accordance with all statutory codes and regulations and any operational systems established by the department from time to time.

Education, Training and Experience

Minimal 3rd Class Power Engineer Certificate

Grade 12 plus ten (10) years recent experience performing duties related to the position, including one (1) year in a similar role utilizing shop and hand tools, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Knowledge of WHMIS and H&S Policy and procedures

Possession of a valid Class 5 driver’s license in the province of BC.

Basic Safety, Equipment Maintenance, Presenting Technical Information,
Skills and Abilities
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally, in writing and by email.
- Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
- Ability to operate equipment related to duties and work performed.
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
- General knowledge of procedures involved in work performed.
Additional Information
This position is regular full-time working 37.5 hours per week. The successful candidate must have the ability to work a variety of shifts including weekends. This is a CUPE Local 3886 Bargaining Unit position and the hourly rate is $35.32 and the university is pleased to offer a comprehensive benefits package.
