Position Summary
The incumbent is a main point of contact for field placements within the School of Accounting, Legal and Office Administration. The incumbent’s role is to promote, develop, coordinate and implement field placements for academic programs within the School of Accounting, Legal and Office Administration. The incumbent is responsible for identifying target employers, recruiting new employers that match the requirements for the students/school, and in the case of the paralegal program, The Law Society of Ontario (LSO). The incumbent must provide meaningful placement opportunities for the students, teach students how to seek and apply for placements should they wish to find their own, ensure that the paralegal employers meet the requirements of the Law Society of Ontario (LSO). The incumbent develops and maintains key employer accounts through fostering meaningful and mutually beneficial relationships. The incumbent is responsible for the planning, implementation and monitoring of field placement strategies to meet established and new field placement goals and targets. Depending on enrolment and other operational factors, the position may involve support of other field placement programs within the Faculty of Global Business and Creative Industries.
Responsibilities
Under minimal direction of the Associate Dean, the position is responsible for the following functions:

Develops and implements a comprehensive field placement marketing and communication plan with team members to foster partnerships with employers, faculty and students. The plan incorporates strategies, activities, timelines and measurement of all development activities such as: identify/develop field placement opportunities through marketing to employers and managing the ongoing relationships with external field placement providers through networking, on-site visits, attending industry functions, telephone solicitation and following up on supplied leads/referrals.

Works with students, placements hosts and faculty to respond to any issues which may arise related to field placement and assures their resolution.

Recommends improvements and monitors the quality of field placements by providing feedback to internal and external stakeholders regarding the quality of training and direction during the placement and the workplace readiness of students.

Guides and advises students by: consulting with faculty and program coordinators to facilitate ideal matches between students and placement opportunities; guiding students during individual appointments, telephone and email discussions; assisting students with setting realistic placement goals; auditing student academic records; providing feedback to students regarding the quality of their resumes; developing and facilitating workshops/information sessions.

Provides exceptional service and support to industry partners while building and maintain strong mutually beneficial relationships.

Provides service and support to employers, and ensures compliance with Workplace Safety and Insurance and Board (“WSIB”), Ministry of Advanced Education and Skills Development, the Law Society of Ontario (“LSO”) and the Immigration, Refugee and Citizenship Canada (“IRCC”), and any health and safety requirements of placement hosts in the medical industry.

Assists with the coordination of industry partnerships events such as: job fairs; assist the Faculty of Global Business & Creative Industries recruitment efforts during information or discovery events; develop, plan and initiate new industry events; participate, attend and remain an active member of industry related committees, associations and other related groups.
Qualifications/Experience

Three year diploma/degree in Business Administration or Marketing or equivalent combination of education and experience.

A minimum of 5 years’ experience in employee/student placement activities and/or related field such as sales, marketing or job development experience in order to identify and develop field placement opportunities.

Employment/placement preparation experience (i.e. resume critique, interview preparation, job search strategies).
-
Knowledge of applicable industries is an asset.
-
Experience working in a post-secondary environment is preferred.

Proven ability to manage a large case load while balancing other duties with deadlines and conflicting priorities, with minimal supervision.

Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize events, students, industry partners and faculty.
-
Experience, knowledge and understanding of working effectively in a diverse environment.

Proven flexibility, cooperation and willingness to share ideas and information to enhance team building with others.
-
Proficient in MS Office (i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Evidence of strong written and verbal communication skills.
