About the role
Reporting to the Associate Director- Prepared Foods Bakery, the Assistant Bakery Merchandiser is responsible for supporting the purchasing function of the Bakery Department by establishing business relationship and working closely with our local suppliers. The position also requires handling of weekly promotion plans; provide solutions to product issues and vendor follow-ups of rebates or other Bakery product related matters.
T&T Supermarket Inc. was founded in 1993 with two stores in BC. Since then, it has expanded rapidly and is now Canada’s largest Asian supermarket chain with 37 stores across the country: 14 in BC, 7 in Alberta, 14 in Ontario, and 2 in Quebec. The Company’s continuous expansion is going to bring more new stores in the next couple of years.
- Maintain regular communication with local suppliers to ensure the business needs of Bakery Departments are fulfilled.
- Negotiate and establish contracts with local vendors; evaluating their brand performance, pricing, service level and preparing and analyzing purchasing reports.
- Responsible in ensuring all vendors meet company food safety standard by working closely with Food Safety & Quality Assurance (FSQA) department.
- Co-operate and assist to ensure all materials and packaging purchased meet food safety and quality standards.
- Explore and develop new local vendors, maintain and enhance business partnerships with them.
- Monitor and replenish inventory via placing orders with our local suppliers in a timely manner to ensure adequate inventory with good quality are available in the warehouse.
- Responsible for handling weekly promotion plans
- Handle stores and customers enquiries regarding Bakery products and related issues
- Follow up with local vendors on matters related to orders and rebates
- Set up and maintain Bakery product information system, including EOS update, store products ingredient list and new products application
- Perform any other duties as assigned by the superior(s)
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in the food service industry, supermarket chain store Bakery department purchasing operation
- Knowledge and prior experience in food products and is an asset
- Good negotiation skills with sound business judgment and decision-making
- Ability to build, develop and maintain relationship
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate in Chinese (Mandarin &/or Cantonese) an asset
- Possess intermediate knowledge in using Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook
- Some travelling to stores &/or suppliers is required
