Position Summary: The Senior Project Manager (SPM) is responsible for leading all phases of project management, from planning and design coordination through execution, commissioning, and closeout. This role ensures projects are completed safely, on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.
The SPM provides strategic leadership, technical expertise, and people management while collaborating with project teams, clients, and partners to achieve NAC’s operational and business goals.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead, mentor, and develop project teams by assigning responsibilities aligned with individual strengths to ensure high performance and accountability
- Supervise, coach, and evaluate Project Managers, Superintendents, Coordinators, and HSE representatives
- Promote a culture of safety, collaboration, and continuous improvement within the project team
- Represent NAC with professionalism and integrity, ensuring all activities align with company values and contractual obligations
- Establish project goals, objectives, milestones, risks, staffing requirements, and work breakdown structures in alignment with NAC and client expectations
- Develop, implement, and maintain detailed project schedules, safety plans, quality control programs, and cost-control systems
- Coordinate and monitor construction activities to ensure compliance with design, schedule, and budget requirements
- Conduct regular progress meetings with site and trade supervision teams to assess productivity and performance
- Oversee project documentation, including RFIs, submittals, shop drawings, change orders, procurement logs, and O&M manuals
- Review estimates and budgets, identify cost-saving opportunities, and maintain strong margin control
- Prepare quarterly forecasts, monthly cost reports, and productivity analyses to support informed decision-making
- Review and approve third-party contracts, consultant fees, and supplier billings in alignment with project budgets
- Identify scope changes and recommend value-engineering strategies to optimize profitability and performance
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, consultants, subcontractors, suppliers, and local partners
- Promote transparent communication and timely resolution of project challenges and conflicts
- Ensure accurate reporting and effective communication between field, office, and client stakeholders
- Facilitate meetings, feedback sessions, and briefings to create alignment among project participants
- Oversee project completion, commissioning, and turnover, including training, warranty documentation, and O&M manuals
- Lead lessons-learned reviews and implement best practices to drive continuous improvement
- Maintain and enhance NAC’s reputation for safety, quality, and operational excellence
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma, G.E.D., or equivalent
- Completion of a Construction or Building Technology Diploma or Engineering Degree
- Professional designation such as P.Eng., C.E.T., Gold Seal Constructor, or PMP is an asset
- Minimum 12+ years of progressive project management experience in heavy civil or industrial construction, or 15 years as a licensed electrical or mechanical journeyperson
- Experience managing water and wastewater treatment plant projects is a strong asset
- Demonstrated success leading multidisciplinary teams through all phases of project delivery
- Strong understanding of scheduling, cost control, safety regulations, and engineering principles
- Ability to interpret blueprints, schematics, field drawings, and construction plans
- Solid knowledge of construction trades, techniques, and productivity standards
- Expertise in contract management, labor relations, and union procedures
- Strong leadership, communication, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills
- Proven ability to manage budgets, forecasts, and performance metrics
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, Outlook)
- Valid driver’s license required
