Position Title: Event Coordinator – Indigenous Job Fair
Wage: $35.00 per hour
Employment Type: Fixed-term contract with variable hours as below
Hours:
- 40 hrs/week (Feb 16 – May 8, 2026) for 12 weeks
- 20 hrs/week (May 11 – June 5, 2026) for 4 weeks
Term: Fixed-term contract ending 5 June 2026;

Location: 14727, 108th Avenue, Surrey, BC, on-site
Reporting to: Housing & Homelessness Manager

Position Summary:
The Event Coordinator will lead the planning, coordination, delivery, and post-event follow-up of the 2-day Indigenous Job Fair aimed at Indigenous youth and adults facing barriers to employment. This role is responsible for putting the event together from start to finish, ensuring the job fair is well-organized, employer-ready, participant-focused, and culturally safe. The Event Coordinator will work closely with Indigenous-friendly employers, community partners, and Elders to bridge the gap between Indigenous job seekers and real employment opportunities**.**
Job Description:
Project Planning & Coordination (February 2026)
- Develop a detailed workplan and event timeline
- Confirm event dates and venue
- Identify priority employment sectors (e.g., construction, trades, health, logistics, service industries)
- Contact & Recruit Indigenous-friendly employers and training providers
- Coordinate Elders, speakers, and panelists
- Plan short talks on the job market, hiring processes, and workplace expectations
Outreach & Promotion (March 2026)
- Promote the job fair through Indigenous organizations, youth programs, and other community networks.
- Share information with participants about job opportunities and employer expectations
- Coordinate registration and participation tracking
- Create posters and info-sheets for the month-long job-readiness program & the actual job fair event
- Advertise the job-readiness program & the actual job fair event on social media and local community information boards like schools, libraries, grocery stores, and partner employers’ businesses.
Participant Preparation & Supports (March–April 2026)
- Organize and deliver one-on-one resume and interview preparation supports
- Support participants in addressing resume gaps, interview confidence, and workplace readiness
- Coordinate referrals to wraparound supports, including interview clothing, work gear resources, attainment of ID, etc.
Event Delivery (April 2026)
- Lead on-site coordination of the two-day Indigenous Job Fair
- Ensure a culturally safe and welcoming environment for the job applicants
- Support employer booths, networking opportunities, interviews, and short talks
Post-Event Follow-Up & Reporting (April–June 2026)
- Follow up with participants and employers
- Track interviews, referrals, and employment outcomes
- Collect feedback and participation data
- Complete evaluation and final reporting requirements
