Athabasca University's Faculty of Health Disciplines is recruiting for the position of Administrative Professional Officer, Academic Advising Services.

Position Summary:
Reporting tothe Faculty Manager, Faculty of Health Disciplines, the Administrative Professional Officer (APO)plays a key leadership role in overseeing advising services forthe Faculty of Health Disciplines at Athabasca University. This position ensures the delivery of high-quality academic advising that supports student success, program progression, and overall learner satisfaction. The APO collaborates closely with faculty, staff, and leadership to develop, implement, and evaluate advising policies, procedures, and communication strategies that align with institutional goals.
This role provides direct supervision and mentorship to the advising team, including managing day-to-day functions, training, performance management, and professional development. The APO monitors workloads, ensures service standards are met, and leads quality-assurance initiatives. Success in this position requires exceptional organizational, leadership, and communication skills, a strong commitment to collaboration, and the ability to balance strategic oversight with day-to-day operational management in a dynamic, student-focused environment.
Qualifications:
- An undergraduate degree and a minimum of five years of work experience in academic advising is required.*
- Extensive knowledge of AU's policies and procedures.
- A working knowledge of the University's computer systems and software including Ellucian (Student Relationship Management software), Greymatter, Banner, Moodle, Degree Works, Amazon Connect, and Microsoft Office 365 including Word, Excel, Outlook, and SharePoint. Willingness and ability to learn to use additional software packages as needed to fulfill the responsibilities of the role is essential.
- Demonstrated leadership, supervision, and team-building abilities is an asset.
- Exceptional interpersonal, verbal, collaboration,and written communication skills, along with strong organizational and time-management abilities.
- Strong organizational judgment with the ability to prioritize, delegate, set strong boundaries, and perform effectively under pressure.
- Proven ability to initiate and implement projects successfully.
- Skilled in conflict resolution and maintaining confidentiality.
- Analytical, detail-oriented, flexible, and decisive.
- Equivalent education and experience may be considered in some cases.
