SALARY RANGE: Starting at $79,591.00 Per Annum
POSITION TYPE: Full-time, Permanent
LOCATION: Saskatoon
ACCOUNTABLE TO: Financial Controller
Brief Overview:
Under the direction of the Financial Controller at Metis Nation–Saskatchewan, the Financial Compliance Officer II is expected to assist in departmental/ministry wide budgets as well as keep track of financial reporting on a regular basis. This role is also expected to implement compliance monitoring systems, carry out financial risk management and support administration of funds in alignment with contribution agreements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Enforce and ensure compliance with laws and regulations governing financial and securities institutions and financial transactions.
- Conduct regular assessments to determine whether policies are being met.
- Ensures the organization is in compliance with its outside regulatory and legal requirements as well as internal policies and bylaws.
- Management of financial resources.
- Ensure that project financials comply with established accounting standards, donor rules and financial guidelines.
- Conduct daily reviews of invoices and expense forms to validate correct coding.
- Identify risk issues and challenges and recommend solutions to address them.
- Report to the federal funders as per the reporting requirements laid out in the contribution agreements regarding the quarterly and annual reports as well as carry forwards.
- Liaise with the MN–S Finance Department and assist in monitoring of actual expenses vs budgets.
- Respond to accounts payable inquiries from internal/external stakeholders.
- Provide financial reports on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis and/or as requested.
- As a team player assist in developing policies and procedures in partnership with other Ministries.
- Support the Ministry in budget preparations, new proposal developments and identifying areas for growth and improved outcomes for Métis citizens and the environment.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, economics, or related field.
- CPA Canada certification would be considered an asset.
- Minimum 3 years' experience in a finance or compliance related role
Knowledge and skills:
- Advanced skills in Adobe and Microsoft Office programs Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Knowledge of Métis culture.
- Knowledge in financial regulations and policies
- A knowledge of Sage 300 and other budgeting software's would be considered an asset.
- Knowledge in risk assessment
- Knowledge and understanding of audited financial statements.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Organization and critical thinking skills and strong time-management skills.
- Willingness to work in a team and independently.
- Resiliency in dealing with changing schedules, timelines, and financial priorities.
- Adaptive to environmental or governmental priority shifts.
Additional requirements:
- The position is based on a 37.5-hour work week Monday through Friday and includes a comprehensive total rewards package.
- A valid Saskatchewan driver’s license and/or access to reliable transportation to our downtown location would be required.
- The successful candidate must undergo a Criminal Record Check.
