Reporting to the Director of Care, the Staff Educator is responsible for planning, coordinating, and delivering education programs that support staff competence, regulatory compliance, and quality resident care. This role provides leadership in staff development, onboarding, and continuing education, ensuring that staff are equipped with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to deliver safe, person-centred care in accordance with legislation, standards, and best practices. Key Responsibilities: Orientation & Onboarding · Deliver standardized orientation programs for new PSW’s and other front-line staff, using approved organizational materials. · Ensure staff are familiar with resident rights, organizational policies, infection prevention, and workplace safety. Training Delivery · Facilitate mandatory annual education sessions (e.g., abuse prevention, fire safety, infection prevention and control, resident rights). · Provide refresher and skills-based training using organizational policies, procedures, and approved content (not self-developed). · Adapt teaching style to meet the needs of diverse learners while maintaining fidelity to approved materials. · Utilize organizational platforms such as Surge Learning and Safety 24-7. · Collaborate with the Education Consultant for content related to policies and procedures and specific compliance requirements. Competency Assessment & Coaching · Assess PSWs’ application of skills and knowledge through observation, checklists, and return demonstrations. · Provide supportive feedback, mentoring, and additional teaching as required. · Identify when staff require further coaching or retraining and coordinate follow-up. Compliance & Documentation · Ensure education content and delivery meet organizational, legislative, and accreditation standards. · Maintain accurate records of staff attendance, competencies, and completion of mandatory training. · Support audits, inspections, and quality improvement initiatives by providing education compliance data. Collaboration & Support · Work closely with the Director of Care and leadership team to schedule education sessions and track compliance. · Support PSWs and other staff with applying policies and best practices in daily care. · Serve as a resource and role model, reinforcing organizational values and a culture of learning. · Liaise with external agencies (colleges, universities, PREP LTC Programs) to support student placements and staff development opportunities Quality · Collaborates with the Director of Care and Director of Clinical Services on special projects and reviews. · Track and trend quality indicator performance monthly. · Update quality improvement spreadsheet with process and progress monthly. · Participate in monthly regional quality improvement calls. · Collaborate with other Southbridge QI leaders in the region to share successes, whether remotely or in person. · Assemble a core QI committee and meet monthly (focus on frontline staff). · Identify gaps in training and education that impact quality. · Identify gaps in training and education that impact quality. · Introduce new care programs and services based on best practices. · Participate in nursing meetings on a regular basis to introduce new programs, policies, quality improvements, new initiatives, and changes in practices and policies. · Chairs Quality Committee and collaborates with the Director of Care and Director of Clinical Services any PSW Practice and Registered Staff meetings. · A member of the Leadership team, Quality Team meetings and other meetings committees as assigned. · Oversee the Clinical Program of the Nursing Department: 1) Falls and Restraint Program; 2) Pain and Palliative Care Program; 3) Skin and Wound Care Program; 4) Continence Care Program; 5) Restorative Care Program; 6) Medication Management; and BSO team including and Continuous Quality Programs in the Home. Conducts regular audits, analysis and plans of action to improve the quality and mitigate risk. · Attend other committees/teams’ meetings as requested or required. · Participate in facility strategic planning to align the nursing department in response to internal and external environmental challenges & Corporate Strategic Plan. · Assist in developing and sustaining the Quality Improvement program. In collaboration with the Director of Care and Director of Clinical Services, the interdisciplinary team develops, tracks, and evaluates quality and risk indicators. · Review and interpret clinical data for analysis and trends in quality improvement activities. Based on the identified trends and analysis, take the lead in changing practices and introducing new policies, programs, and services. · Provide the Senior Management with monthly Key performance indicators updates, including plans to address areas where targets are not met. · Assist with the evaluation of all resident programs and services for relevance, quality, and effectiveness · Partner with stakeholders, like colleges, universities, agencies, and professional associations. · Participate in industry benchmarking. · Participate in the selection of staff and is involved in the hiring process as required. · Can assist with providing guidance to leadership on performance management plans, disciplinary issues and investigations as required. Knowledge and Skills Required: · Current Personal Support Worker certification or equivalent healthcare/education experience. · Minimum 2–3 years of experience in long-term care or related healthcare environment. · Registered Practical Nurse qualifications may be required depending on the needs of the home. · Gentle Persuasive Approaches Coach certified is preferred. · Experience teaching or coaching PSWs or front-line staff preferred. Strong knowledge of organizational policies, Ministry of Long-Term Care staffing requirements, and LTC best practices. · Excellent facilitation, communication, and coaching skills. · Proficiency in Microsoft Office, e-learning platforms, and record-keeping systems. · Commitment to resident-centred care and PSW support. · Strong facilitation and coaching skills. · Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to build trust with front-line staff. · Ability to support a culture of safety, accountability, and learning. Working Conditions This is a full-time position based in a professional office environment. Standard working hours are Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with occasional need for adjustment or overtime during peak periods. The role involves prolonged periods of sitting and working on a computer. The employee must be able to manage multiple tasks and deadlines in a fast-paced, team-oriented setting.
