Associate Chair, Doctor of Counselling and Psychotherapy (DCP)
About the role
Who we need
Reporting to the Chair, Doctor of Counselling and Psychotherapy (DCP), we have a newly created opportunity for an Associate Chair, DCP, to join our academic leadership team with a dedicated focus on the Applied Scholarship Project (ASP). This is a pivotal and highly visible academic appointment that will advance the university’s mission through excellence in teaching, research supervision, and program leadership.
As our new Associate Chair, DCP, you will play a critical role in guiding curriculum delivery, supporting faculty development, and enhancing student engagement. You will balance academic instruction with mentorship and operational oversight, fostering an inclusive and intellectually stimulating environment that encourages innovation, scholarly inquiry, and professional growth.
You will take ownership of advancing student success by cultivating strategic partnerships, ensuring academic quality, and championing continuous improvement across the program.
Working in close partnership with the Chair, DCP, you will ensure that the Applied Scholarship specialization remains academically rigorous, professionally relevant, and aligned with current disciplinary and industry standards. You will contribute to the ongoing development and quality assurance of the curriculum, building strategic relationships and strengthening institutional visibility across higher education, professional associations, and community networks to support student achievement and designation pathways.
This is a full-time remote position within Canada with travel required for convocations and events as needed.
What’s in it for you
Impact and leadership. You will play a central role in advancing the visibility, quality, and impact of Applied Scholarship projects. You will provide expert academic and research guidance to students and supervisors, oversee all ASP administrative processes, and chair scholarly defences. You will help shape the intellectual direction of the DCP, reinforcing academic excellence and research integrity across the program.
Collaboration and influence. You will maintain a flexible teaching load of 16–25 courses per year while contributing to broader program development initiatives, including organizing student research symposia. You will have the autonomy to bring forward new ideas and pedagogical innovations, collaborating with a collegial and research-driven faculty to expand the scope and depth of applied scholarship within the DCP.
Recognition and growth. You will join a progressive and forward-thinking institution that values innovation, academic rigour, and meaningful impact. This role offers the opportunity to strengthen professional reputation through leadership in applied scholarship and research, to influence the evolution of a nationally recognized doctoral program, and to prepare for continued advancement within academic leadership.
As our new Associate Chair, Doctor of Counselling and Psychotherapy (DCP), you will:
- Lead. You will provide strategic leadership and operational oversight for the Applied Scholarship Project (ASP), ensuring administrative processes are efficient, aligned with the program mission, and contribute to Yorkville University’s academic goals. You will guide the ASP’s research vision, fostering methodological rigour, ethical integrity, and scholarly innovation. You may serve as a neutral chair for ASP defences, upholding fairness, academic standards, and consistency. You will execute delegated responsibilities with professionalism, accountability, and alignment with the university’s strategic priorities.
- Develop. You will contribute to the planning, design, and enhancement of graduate-level curriculum and academic programming, ensuring alignment with accreditation standards, Yorkville’s Signature Learning Outcomes, and evolving disciplinary trends. You will teach and help develop research-focused and ethics-related courses, and may serve as Course Lead for Applied Scholarship and Research. You will collaborate with Learning Design and Assessment teams, review course content, maintain the ASP Handbook, and ensure program materials support consistency, clarity, and student success.
- Inspire. You will recruit, mentor, and support a diverse and accomplished faculty community demonstrating excellence in teaching, research, and professional practice. You will oversee faculty supervising student research projects, providing guidance and fostering a collaborative, inquiry-driven academic culture. You will advance instructional excellence through evidence-based teaching practices, constructive feedback, and professional development initiatives. You will champion innovation, scholarly engagement, and inclusivity across the DCP program.
- Teach. You will deliver approximately fifty percent of a full-time teaching load, providing instruction in research-intensive courses that cultivate critical inquiry, applied scholarship, and ethical practice. You will lead seminars and workshops to build research competencies, strengthen students’ readiness for the ASP, and prepare them for scholarly dissemination and publication. You will employ inclusive, adaptive, and technology-enhanced teaching approaches across online and blended modalities to maximize engagement and learning outcomes.
- Support. You will mentor students and faculty through all stages of the research process, including proposal development, Research Ethics Board approvals, methodology guidance, and knowledge translation. You will monitor academic progress, provide personalized advising, and ensure the timely completion of research milestones. You will maintain accurate student records to inform reporting, continuous improvement, and program-level decision-making.
- Ensure. You will uphold academic quality, compliance, and integrity by supporting accreditation, quality assurance, and regulatory processes. You will apply institutional and regulatory standards consistently, maintaining transparency, fairness, and academic excellence in all aspects of teaching, assessment, and research supervision.
- Engage. You will cultivate external community and professional partnerships to enhance applied research opportunities and student engagement. You will lead the planning and implementation of a DCP Research Symposium or similar scholarly forum to showcase student and faculty research and contribute to the program's national visibility and influence. You will represent the program at academic, professional, and community events to strengthen Yorkville University’s reputation for innovation and scholarly impact.
- Collaborate. You will work closely with colleagues across Student Services, Teaching and Learning, Regulatory Affairs, Admissions, and Academic Leadership to ensure coordinated and seamless delivery of academic operations. You will serve as a central point of contact and advisor for the DCP program, promoting communication, transparency, and shared purpose.
- Contribute. You will engage in ongoing professional and scholarly development to maintain disciplinary, methodological, and pedagogical expertise.
