Handwork/Visual Arts Teacher K-6, 0.3FTE
Permanent, Part-time 0.3FTE (2024/25 School Year)
Okanagan Waldorf School is seeking a creative, inspired handwork/visual arts teacher to serve a diverse population of children in an atmosphere that encourages active inquiry and fosters individual growth, promoting respect for self, others, and the world in which they live.
The ideal candidate is experienced with teaching handwork/watercolour painting to groups of children, has experience working in a private school environment, and is passionate about sharing their love of the arts with students in the grades. Patient, organized, and dependable, they are committed to excellence in the classroom, love working with children, and are eager to contribute to a strong community of dedicated teachers and students. It is preferential for the candidate to hold a Waldorf Certificate, valid through the BC Teachers Regulation Branch or a BC Teaching certificate, and is motivated to learn more and study curriculum methods inspired by the educational pedagogy of Waldorf Education.
Besides teaching, responsibilities include attendance at regular department and faculty meetings, committee work, lesson planning, participation in the planning and implementing of festivals, preparing written student reports, and meeting with parents. The successful candidate will have demonstrated strong classroom management skills, a deep grounding in the development of the young child, the ability to build professional relationships with parents, faculty, and staff, and will enthusiastically join the collaborative work of our school.
REQUIREMENTS
- Experience teaching watercolour painting and handwork: knitting, crocheting, and sewing
- Have obtained or have the ability to obtain Certification under the BC Teachers Regulation Branch
- Clear Criminal Record
- A love for and willingness to work daily in a rural forest and farm setting.
PREFERRED
- Completion of, or enrollment in, an AWSNA approved Waldorf GradesTeacher Training program
- Current first aid or must be willing to obtain
SALARY
$15,017 to $19,603/year based on experience and credentials
