Job Description:
Position Purpose summary:
Reports to the Lead Cook, the Dietary Aide is an integral member of the Food Services Team. The Dietary Aide is responsible for serving meals, cleaning and sanitation of Dining Rooms, operating dishwasher in accordance with manufacturers and Alberta Health guidelines. Receives support and direction from the Lead Cook.
Accountabilities:
- Prepares the service area for food service.
- Food Service – ensures regular dining table supplies are well stocked.
- Performs cleaning and sanitizing duties in designated work areas. Follows established protocols, remains aware of safety policy and procedures.
- Operates a commercial dishwasher.
- Preparation and pre-preparation of food items for resident meals. Monitors temperature levels of serving trays.
- Performs duties that require simple baking procedures.
- Post meal clean-up.
- Wipe down counters/tables
CRITICAL RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT
Internal:
- Staff and residents of Grace Manor
- Respects residents and families choices
- Shows respect for others by recognizing ethnic, cultural and individual differences regarding residents, families and staff.
- Reports unsafe practices or professional misconduct to the Food Services Supervisor or designate.
- Maintains good relationships with other food services staff, and other facility co-workers.
MANAGERIAL RESPONSIBILITY:
- This position reports directly to the Lead Cook.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- The performance of the job requires a frequent amount of standing, moderate amount of lifting, carrying supplies, walking and washing floors and kitchen equipment.
- Must be in good physical condition that allows bending, kneeling or stooping so they can lift items such as loads of dishes, kitchen tools, machinery, and food preparation equipment.
- All Food Services Workers are required to wear close-toed, non-skid shoes. These shoes are a personal expense and must always be worn.
The above responsibilities must be discharged in accordance with The Salvation Army’s Mission Statement, in a professional manner, exemplifying Christian standards of conduct.

Experience and Skilled Knowledge Requirements:
- Minimum 1-year experience in an institutional or commercial kitchen.
- Strong knowledge of health, and safety standards.
- Must practice high standards of cleanliness and sanitization.
Skills and Capabilities:
- Must have good communication skills and be able to work in a team setting in a busy kitchen atmosphere.
- Must be able to read and speak fluently in the English Language.
- Able to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Effective organizational, planning and time management skills
- Reliability and punctuality are essential
- Able to observe all safety precautions and safe work practices.
- The ability to work within the mandate of The Salvation Army Mission Statement, exemplifying Christian standards of conduct.
The incumbent’s work environment is typically at work sites within residential settings, and may require working under the following disagreeable conditions:
- Dealing with angry and abusive people
- Verbal abuse
- Exposure to bodily fluids, bodily waste
- Exposure to drugs, alcohol and solvents
- The incumbent will work on call 24/7 or as scheduled.
- Physical attacks by others
- Exposure to infectious diseases
- Exposure to toxic chemicals
- Sharp objects (i.e. needle sticks, knives and weapons)
- Other dangerous situations
- Universal precautions
- Immunization for Hepatitis B
- Vaccination against Tuberculosis
This is a Casual positions. No fixed schedule hours.
Target hiring range for this position is $17.79 Per hour at Step 1 to $20.77 per hour at Step 5
Compensation:
The target hiring range for this position is $17.79 to $19.28 with a maximum of $20.77.
Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
