The Network Field Technician is responsible for network development and maintenance in the field at the client’s site. The individual works with the organization’s technical team and its clients to install, configure, maintain, and fix all LAN/WAN and other equipment issues, ensuring efficient network functionality.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Support the Network Solutions Design team by procuring, configuring, installing, and testing network devices; provide operational network support and assist with basic network cabling
- Networking and Programming of CISCO networking gears
- Installation and termination of wireless computing networks, cabling, connections, switches, and routers
- Maintain computer equipment, cabling, routers, switches, and network peripherals
- Address all of client’s networking requirements either remotely or at client’s premises
- Test and troubleshoot any basic networking issues as they arise and resolve system glitches with solutions to overcome restrictions to ensure the network is working efficiently with a long-term focus
- Knowledgeable about TCP/IP protocols, DHCP, DNS, Active Directory, and other networking basics
- Inspect LAN/WAN infrastructures and troubleshoot any issues affecting them, Fix and maintain hardware and peripheral devices
- Familiar with virtualization technologies, such as Hyper-V and VMware
- Provide technical advice to clients concerning the usage of the network
Qualifications
- 5+ years of industry network experience
- 3+ years of experience in structured cabling
- Post-secondary education in Networking technologies, Computer Science or Information Technology (or equivalent)
- Familiarity with Hewlett Packard (HP) and Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) Aruba Networks
- Familiarity with SolarWinds system
- Excellent understanding of networking requirements and wiring standards applicable to the telecommunications industry
- Ability to grasp new techniques, and deal with rapidly changing events
- Ability to work safely in hazardous environments with knowledge and understanding of occupational hazards and safe work requirements (OH&S)
- Knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions of the trade
- Knowledge of hand and power tools, test equipment and design/fabrication techniques
- Knowledge of applicable telecommunication codes, standards, and regulations
- Electrical Wiring codes and best practices
Other Requirements
- Full, valid, and current driver’s license
- Clean 5-year driver’s abstract
- Clear Criminal Background Check
- Successful completion of a Pre-Access Drug & Alcohol test, with ongoing random testing as required by clients

Relationships
The Network Field Technician reports directly to the Site Superintendent. The incumbent also works directly with:

Authority
The Network Field Technician holds the authority to do the following:
- Install, remove, and repair communications equipment
- Train customers and other personnel in the operation of communications equipment
- Make routine decisions pertaining to the repair of communications equipment
Physical Demands
The Network Field Technician must be able to spend the majority of the day sitting, walking, and/or standing. They may be required to stoop, bend, kneel and squat for extended periods of time. They also may be required to carry equipment weighing up to 50lbs for short distances.
