The Planning, Development & Real Estate Department requires a regular full-time Plan Checker 2 to join their team.
You will be responsible for the plan review and issuance of larger more complex commercial, industrial, apartment and other residential buildings to ensure compliance with the provincial building codes and municipal regulations/bylaws. You will discuss plans, proposed projects and non-conformance issues with various stakeholders to clarify problem areas and to explain BC Building Code and City regulations and by-laws. You will also provide guidance and training to plan checking staff and assistance to stakeholders as required. In addition, you may from time to time conduct inspections of non-complex permitted work such as sign installations to ensure conformity with City by-laws.
The successful candidate will possess a Diploma of Technology in Building, or a related discipline, plus considerable related experience in municipal plan checking and/or in the building construction industry. Ideally you will be BOABC Level III for Building Officials, or enrolled in the Building Official-in-Training Program (BOIT) and on target to be “Qualified” within a required timeline. Additional requirements include a strong knowledge of related bylaws, acts, and regulations, the ability to read plans, surveys, and related material and a Class 5 B.C. Driver’s License. Computer literacy electronic plan review and administration software, and in MS Excel and MS Word will be considered an asset.
Salary:
$44.22 to $52.21 per hour
(Pay Grade 25 – January 2024 rates)
Hours of Work:
The City of North Vancouver currently works on a compressed work schedule of 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday to Friday, with one scheduled day off (Monday or Friday) approximately each three-week scheduling cycle.
