About the role

Learner Experience Coordinator, College of Medicine

Primary Purpose: The Learner Experience Coordinator plays a key role in planning, coordinating, and delivering learner-focused services for the Master of Physician Assistant Studies (MPAS) program. This position is responsible for student onboarding, learner experience, mentorship, career and transition-to-practice planning, and access to academic and non-academic supports across the program.

The role also leads planning and coordination activities for the clinical year, including placement and elective matching processes. Through collaboration with internal and external partners, this position ensures learners are well supported from program entry through transition into clinical practice.

Nature of Work: Reporting to the MPAS Program Manager, with an oversight from the Academic Director, the Learner Experience Coordinator works in a fast-paced and evolving academic environment with multiple priorities and competing deadlines. The role requires sound judgment, professionalism, and discretion, particularly when working with sensitive learner matters.

The position carries responsibility across two interconnected portfolios: student affairs and Year 2 planning and coordination. The coordinator plans and executes learner-facing initiatives, manages processes, and contributes to medium-term planning related to clinical year implementation and learner support strategies.

The role includes preparing quarterly summary reports for the MPAS Academic Director that highlight themes, trends, and areas for attention within the learner experience and student affairs portfolio. Reports are de-identified and intended to inform program planning, quality improvement, and responsive learner support initiatives.

  • Design and coordinate mentorship initiatives, including peer and faculty mentorship opportunities, to support learner development across the program
  • Support learner transition to clinical practice, including career exploration and professional development
  • Provide guidance on career planning, including exploration of practice settings, scope of practice considerations, and connection to relevant professional resources
  • Monitor and manage learner experience and learning environment concerns, escalating issues as appropriate in collaboration with program leadership

  • Establish and maintain a strong liaison with USask Central Student Support units and the College of Medicine’s Office of Student Affairs (OSA) to ensure coordinated and comprehensive support for learners
  • Support the Curriculum team in developing collaborative initiatives that enhance interprofessional education (IPE) and ensure seamless learning experiences for learners

Clinical Placement Coordination

  • Plan and coordinate the clinical year, including placement site matching and elective matching processes
  • Develop and manage placement schedules, timelines, and learner placement information in collaboration with the clinical education team
  • Build and maintain relationships with clinical sites, preceptors, and external partners to support learner placements and electives
  • Prepare learners for clinical placements by providing clear guidance on expectations, timelines, and site-specific requirements
  • Track and review placement-related information to identify issues, gaps, or risks requiring follow-up
  • Collaborate with faculty and external stakeholders to address placement challenges and enhance learner preparedness within the hub
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the overall objectives of the MPAS program
