About the role

NexGold has an exciting opportunity for  one (1) Process Engineer - Lead position working with the projects team. Initially, this role will have regular travel to our Corporate Office in Toronto and periodic trips to the assigned Project. This role will transition to an on-site rotational work schedule during the assigned Project’s construction phase. Initially, this role will be assigned to the Goldboro Gold Project in Goldboro, Nova Scotia. Following the Project’s construction phase at Goldboro, this role may have the opportunity to transition to operations at Goldboro or may be assigned to the Project team at the Goliath Gold Complex near Dryden, Ontario, or other project sites in the future.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design & Engineering: Validate current process design criteria, finalize previously developed process flow diagrams, address independent engineer assurance review comments, support mass and water balance calculations, oversee the development of piping & instrumentation diagrams, support mechanical general arrangement design, support the selection of suitable processing equipment, oversee the specification and supply of a metallurgical testing laboratory, and participate in the development and acceptance testing of the process control system.
  • Optimization: Identify processing opportunities and risks and implement solutions to enhance the safety, operability, and maintainability of the Process Plant. (HAZOP studies)
  • Compliance & Safety: Ensure all operations comply with safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements, including the cyanide code. This includes identifying risks and implementing risk controls specifically for Process Plant effluents.
  • Project Management: Plan and schedule activities to support the overall project execution plan. This includes collaborating with engineering firms to identify work packages, work package activities, and associated timelines to complete the work.
  • Commissioning: Support the development and implementation of Commissioning Plans and overseeing Process Plant completion of construction and commissioning on-site.
  • Operations: Plan and support recruitment of the process operations team, establish training modules and provide on-the-job training for control room and field operators.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with engineering consultants, geologists, mining engineers, maintenance teams, to facilitate overall project and operational goals and objectives.
  • Data Analysis & Reporting: Post commissioning, collecting and analyzing process data and performance metrics to make informed, data-driven decisions and prepare technical and production reports for management and stakeholders.
  • Provide input to NexGold weekly, monthly and quarterly project reports and presentations.
  • Participate in the development of project documents including the package register, project schedule, scope of facilities, capital, and operating cost estimates.

Other Duties

  • Demonstrate a personal commitment to Safety, Health, and Environmental responsibilities
  • Occasional regional travel (i.e., day trips to communities surrounding the Project sites)
  • Additional responsibilities or tasks as reasonably assigned

What You Bring:

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mineral Processing, Extractive Metallurgy or Chemical Engineering
  • Ten years of mineral processing experience with gold and base metals, preferably with proven experience on successful projects (design, construction, commissioning and/or operations)
  • Ability to effectively translate field and engineering experience to other process staff and design activities
  • Leadership abilities including project management skills, lead design role capability and supervisory skills
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Valid driver's license within Canada
  • Registered as a Professional Engineer (P. Eng.) in Nova Scotia with the ability to register in Ontario

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience using Intergraph Smart P&ID software

Role Details:

  • Schedule: Monday to Friday, 9:00am-5:00pm. During construction phase, schedule will change to a rotational schedule working on-site at the assigned Project (schedule TBD).
  • Work Arrangements: Hybrid with periodic travel to the assigned Project site and regular travel to the Corporate Office in Toronto, if the incumbent does not live in Toronto. During the construction phase, work arrangements will change to a rotational schedule working on-site at the assigned Project (schedule TBD).

  • Compensation: Competitive compensation package including base salary range of $160,000-$185,000 annually, dependent on incumbent's qualifications and experience. Eligible for discretionary short-term incentive program.
