About the role

Pay rate, benefits and other terms and conditions are as per the CUPE 139 Collective Agreement

The Inpatient Surgery department offers post-operative care to patients that have had surgery or are under the care of one of the surgeons as well as providing care to Medical patients and Palliative patients.

QUALIFICATIONS

Certification/Experience/Knowledge:

  • Current Certificate of Registration ~ College of Nurses of Ontario required
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) for Health Care Providers (HCP) Certificate required (recent within the last twelve months)
  • Recent medical and surgical clinical experience in an active care setting (within 3 years) required
  • I.V. Therapy required
  • Capillary Blood Glucose certification required
  • Relevant nursing skills such as working with PCA pump, and TPN maintenance required
  • Basic computer knowledge required

Skills/Abilities:

  • Excellent level of interpersonal skills required

  • Excellent level of written and verbal communication skills required

  • Ability to participate as a member of a multidisciplinary team with the ability to function well in a team oriented climate required

  • Ability to provide health teaching to individuals required

  • Able to meet the physical demands required to provide nursing care to surgical and medical patients required

  • Ability to function in fast-pace environment and problem-solve required

  • Ability to work with minimal supervision required

  • Must demonstrate commitment to ensure their safety, the safety of fellow workers, patients, volunteers, and visitors

  • Must support and contribute to a culture of safety and prevention of adverse health events in this organization

  • Good attendance and work record required

  • Bilingualism (Advanced level English/French) is required. All unilingual candidates are encouraged to apply and may be considered if the identified French requirement has been met or there are no successful bilingual candidates. A formal French test will be conducted to evaluate the proficiency level.

The North Bay Regional Health Centre (NBRHC) is a unique healthcare organization with three primary roles. It provides acute care services to North Bay and its surrounding communities, it is the district referral centre providing specialist services for smaller communities in the area, and it is the specialized mental health service provider serving all of northeast Ontario

NBRHC has 389 beds and numerous outpatient and outreach services in North Bay and throughout the northeast region.

NBRHC is one of four major acute care hospitals serving northeast Ontario; the others being Sault Area Hospital, Timmins and District Hospital and Health Sciences North (Sudbury). The area is also served by small community hospitals like Mattawa and West Nipissing General hospitals.

NBRHC’s Regional Mental Health Services provides inpatient beds in North Bay and Sudbury and outpatient and outreach services that throughout the region—from Hudson Bay to Muskoka from Sault Ste. Marie to the Quebec border.
