Position: National Lead - Agri-Food Ecosystem

Compensation Details**:**
- Business Development 19: Salaries typically range from $109,810 to $146,413 annually, based on qualifications and experiences, plus a performance-based incentive.
Location:
- Export Development Canada operates in a hybrid work environment, currently requiring employees to work in the office2 days per week. (subject to change)
- This role can be performed from EDC’s headquarters in Ottawa or from one of our Community Hubs located in Toronto, Mississauga, Montreal, Brossard, Laval, Calgary, Halifax, or Vancouver**.**

Team Overview:
Agri-Food is a priority sector for EDC. Part of the larger Sectors and International Advisory team, the Agri-Food Team engages with a diverse portfolio of customers and prospects within the Agri-Food sector eco-system as well as developing strategy and tactics to achieve EDC’s Agri-Food export growth targets.
We are looking for an experienced candidate to join our Agri-Food team to deliver on our mandate of supporting the growth of Canadian Agri-Food companies. In the role of the National Lead - Agri-Food Ecosystem, the successful candidate will leverage their extensive professional network, business development skills and industry knowledge expertise to support the team’s and EDC’s objectives.
The National Lead - Agri-Food Ecosystem will focus on managing key internal and external relationships, providing market intelligence and expert advice and insight to groups across EDC, representing EDC at various forums and events and provide oversight to specific internal team functions. The successful candidate will have deep knowledge of food manufacturing operations and an existing network of export and/or Agri-Food related players.
The National Lead will be accountable to manage and optimize the use of budgets from the marketing team while maintaining positive and effective relationships with industry and government.
What you will be doing:
- Responsible for mapping and maintaining the Agri-Food ecosystem of players including government, associations and exporters in both Canada and internationally, develop strategies for executive consumption to build consensus and ensure that all levels of the organization are well-briefed on trends and challenges facing the sector. Work as part of cross-ecosystem teams to address these issues as required
- Responsible for developing and implementing a relationship management plan and partner orientation for strategic, complex existing partnerships to build key relationships at both provincial and national levels within the Agri-Food ecosystem partners with a focus on industry, venture funds, banks, and government all while keeping the voice of the customer/partner at the center of the organization.
- Responsible for identifying and managing external stakeholders up to executive level, uncovering their needs/issues/concerns and then lead and coordinate stakeholder engagement plans to support the communication of business information.
- Bring a personal network within the Agri-Food ecosystem and represent the organization at Agri-Food sector events with partners in Canada, professional forums, associations, and committees. Obtain market intelligence to enhance the visibility and reputation of the organization, its products, and its services.
- Participate in the initial triaging of opportunities to match customer/partner needs with EDC products and identify the resources who will provide on-going customer management to ensure needs are met for maximum value creation through the client growth cycle.
- Contribute to the creation and implementation of our annual global Agri-Food strategy update.
- Responsible for leading EDC’s internal working group comprised of members across EDC aligning the organization’s efforts towards a common Agri-Food strategy execution vision.
- Support the work done by Relationship Managers across EDC as well as Underwriters by offering expert Agri-Food insight into the external eco-system and provide strategic insight to support their customer engagements.
- Responsible for leading engagement with EDC’s Government Relations team on all matters related to our relationship with government. When in government meetings be a champion for EDC and be seen as a leader in Agri-Food ecosystem issues related to achieving Canada’s Agri-Food growth goals.
- Work with teams across EDC on key events as required to ensure efficient use of capacity while delivering value-add programing to our customers and the Agri-Food ecosystem.
- Work closely with Marketing to make choices for EDC’s Agri-Food branding and content creation to support the EDC Agri-Food brand in market.
- Lead and facilitate exchange of ideas and task collaboration in project teams which can be comprised of internal and external players.
- Oversee reporting of all types across the Agri-Food Team. This includes monthly, quarterly and yearly reporting and forecasting for Results and specialized reports (i.e., partnership reporting). Provide answers to requests on Agri-Food numbers from both internal and external requesters.
What we are looking for:
- Undergraduate Degree in Business Administration /Finance, (or equivalent professional designation) in relevant discipline.
- Minimum 8 years of business development.
- Minimum 8 years of partner/industry/government relationship management.
- Well-developed professional network in export and/or Agri-Food related themes.
- Proven ability to work effectively in a matrix organization and lead virtual teams.
What will make you stand out:
- Bilingualism (English and French).
- Master’s degree in Business Administration/Finance or specialization in Agri-Food Industry.
- Knowledge and proven ability to use social media.
