Terry’s Place is a licensed Community Living BC residence in Barrière, BC, supporting adults with developmental diverse abilities. We are looking for compassionate and dependable Residence Workers who are passionate about helping individuals live meaningful, independent, and fulfilling lives in a supportive home environment.

About the Role

As a Residence Worker, you will support residents with daily living while encouraging independence, social inclusion, and personal well-being. This role combines personal care, life skills support, advocacy, and household management in a collaborative home environment.

Responsibilities include:

  • Supporting residents with personal care, daily routines, and health needs
  • Encouraging independence, community participation, and meaningful social connections
  • Planning activities and supporting recreational outings and appointments
  • Preparing healthy meals and meeting dietary needs
  • Managing household tasks including cooking, shopping, cleaning, laundry, budgeting, and yard maintenance
  • Administering medication following agency procedures
  • Supporting self-advocacy and working collaboratively with families, care teams, and community professionals
  • Assisting residents with financial management and life skills development
  • Recognizing and responding appropriately to crisis situations and potential risks
  • Maintaining accurate daily logs, reports, and program documentation

  • Interior Community Services is a Municipal Pension Plan (MPP) employer. Casual employees' entitlement to MPP is determined based on the candidate's current contribution status. If you are already a contributing member, then your contributions are continued without interruptions.

Education, Training & Experience:

  • Community and School Support Worker, Resident Care Aid, or Home Support Worker Certificate
  • One (1) year of recent related experience working with seniors with developmental diverse abilities
  • Or a combination of education, training, and experience.

  • Strong relationship-building and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to respond calmly and professionally to challenging behaviours and crisis situations
  • Experience supporting life skills and person-centered goals using a strengths-based approach
  • Strong problem-solving, conflict resolution, and critical thinking skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team
  • Good organization, documentation, cooking, budgeting, and household management skills

Other Musts

  • BC Class 5 DL. BC Class 4 Unrestricted Driver's License is an asset.
  • A safe driving record
  • Access to a safe vehicle - may require Business Use insurance with $5 Million Liability (reimbursement provided)
  • TB Testing showing free from tuberculosis
  • Physical abilities to provide individuals with personal care and recreational activities indoors and outdoors.
  • Following training is required and provided to the successful candidate free of charge. Existing certification is an asset: Emergency First Aid with CPR-C, Mandt-RCT, WHMIS, Safe Food Handling, Medication Management, CLBC Privacy, Anti-Bullying, Abuse and Neglect Awareness Training, and Harassment.
  • This position requires Union membership and 1.85% union dues are deducted from each pay.
  • Background checks through the BC Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor General and RCMP are required.

PROGRAM: Terry’s Place

LOCATION: Barrière, BC

STATUS: Temporary Part-Time

TERM: 3 months or until return of the incumbent

HOURS: 12 hours per week

SCHEDULE: Sunday to Monday 9 am-3 pm

REPORTS TO: Program Coordinator, Terry's Place

COMPENSATION: $25.95 - $29.76 per hour (Grid 10 as per collective agreement)
