Clinical Supervisor
Full Time, 1 year Term

It is the mission of Tungasuvvingat Inuit (TI) to broadly provide Inuit-specific programs that contribute to the health and wellbeing of Inuit and to encourage and support similar programs for Inuit across the country. TI has over 30 years of highly successful experience in crafting the design, development, and delivery of a wide range of effective, client-centered services. By incorporating the principles of Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit (IQ), TI continues to deliver quality programs and services that directly benefit our growing urban Inuit population.
The Clinical Supervisor is responsible for providing leadership, guidance, and clinical oversight to the counselling team at Mamisarvik Healing Centre. This role ensures the delivery of high-quality, trauma-informed care and culturally grounded services to individuals, families, and communities impacted by substance use, intergenerational trauma, and mental health challenges. The Clinical Supervisor supports staff in delivering therapeutic interventions that address substance use, problem gambling, mental health concerns, family dynamics, and lifestyle changes.
This is a supervisory position responsible for overseeing the clinical counselling team, providing guidance, support, and performance oversight. The Supervisor may also support the onboarding, supervision, and development of students or volunteers involved in service or training, as required.
Responsibilities:
Supervision
- Provide clinical supervision, mentorship, and support to counselling staff, ensuring effective, ethical, and client- centered service delivery.
- Oversee the implementation and fidelity of trauma-informed, culturally relevant treatment approaches rooted in Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit (IQ) and best practices in addiction and mental health.
- Support case conferencing, clinical documentation reviews, and individualized care planning.
- Facilitate team learning through debriefings, reflective practice, and professional development opportunities.
- Maintain a small caseload, as required, to support service continuity and model best practices.
- Collaborate with program leadership to support intake decisions, crisis response, and overall program development
Counselling and Group Facilitation
- Interview clients from diverse backgrounds and determine their suitability for participation in a particular program.
- Conduct bio-psychosocial assessments and collaborate with clients to design client-centred, strength-based change strategies, reflecting evidence-based practices, Inuit traditional healing and clinical experiences.
- Conduct individual, group and family counselling sessions in a professional and ethical manner, following all recognized standards, legislation, and guidelines relevant to Inuit traditions and clinical practice.
- Counsel family members and significant others to assist them in understanding, dealing with and supporting clients.
- Respond to client requests and crises in a responsible, timely and flexible manner.
- Develop discharge plans in consultation with clients and related professionals and organizations.
- Match treatment services and interventions to clients and their family’s unique circumstances whenever possible
- Work collaboratively and openly with team members to ensure the safest care is provided and seek advice in situations that may be beyond the Counsellor’s scope of practice.
- Utilize Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit principles and other Inuit traditional teachings for healing and counseling purposes.
- Develop, implement, and evaluate public education, treatment, prevention, and health promotion programs related to substance abuse and trauma based on best practices, traditional healing methods, and in collaboration with related professionals, organizations, and communities.
- Develop, implement, and evaluate substance abuse and trauma treatment programs within the organization that are in keeping with Inuit culture, principles, and values.
- Present self in an approachable and friendly manner as an ethical representative of TI
- Maintain current and accurate confidential records of client files and attend to related requests for documentation in a timely and consistent manner.
- Follow the policy and procedures of TI and consult with supervisor as needed.
- Work collaboratively and actively with administrative staff who will also be working in support of clients in a non- counseling role i.e., transportation to medical appointments, housing issues, gathering of statistical data.
- May provide on-call services during treatment cycle.
- Occasional provision of short trips with clients and support during other activities may be required on occasion i.e., supportive of CAS cases and access issues
Community Consultation
- Establish and maintain professional working relationships and regular communication with the community and other related organizations.
- Participate on committees, teams, or work groups at the local, provincial, regional, and national levels.
- Participate in knowledge exchange activities with related organizations by maintaining regular correspondence, sharing, and inquiring about resources and advocating for quality service delivery.
- Coordinate referrals, admissions, and discharges with related organization.
- Actively network with other Inuit organizations within Ontario and other areas.
Professional Development
- Participate in ongoing professional development activities and engage in reciprocal relationships of learning with colleagues to stay current in the field
- Participate in regular individual and team supervision meetings.
- Implement related learning and professional development plans as discussed with the supervisor.
- Maintain professional credentialing, certification, and continuing education requirements on own initiative and in conjunction with organizational resources where available.
- Actively participate in setting and achieving career planning and development of skills especially toward Inuit cultureand obtaining university credentials.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate should have a strong understanding of Inuit culture, values, Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit and traditional healing methods and practices. Thorough knowledge of substance use, trauma, and intergenerational impacts, including evidence-based and culturally grounded models of treatment intervention for Inuit adults and youth. Strong understanding of clinical supervision principles, reflective practice, and ethical guidelines in mental health and addiction services. In-depth knowledge of individual, family, group, and crisis counselling methods, as well as risk assessment and case consultation processes. Familiarity with program development, outcome evaluation, and integration of Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit (IQ) in clinical and organizational practice. Awareness of best practices for working with diverse populations, particularly urban Inuit, within residential or community-based healing environments.
Ability to manage and respond to high-risk and life-threatening situations involving clients or staff, support and guide a clinical team through supervision, mentorship, and conflict resolution. Ability to balance clinical oversight with administrative tasks such as scheduling, documentation review, and program coordination. Demonstrates reliability, a strong work ethic, and the ability to model healthy work-life balance for team members.

Undergraduate Degree in Indigenous Studies, Health Sciences, Counselling, Behavioral Science, addiction Medicine and Mental Health is required. Masters Degree in Social Work, Human Services, Psychology or Psychotherapy is preferred. CPR, Crisis Intervention and Prevention, Suicide Intervention and Prevention skills and training or related certifications is preferred.
Minimum two years’ experience in clinical supervision or team leadership, including mentoring, debriefing, and overseeing the therapeutic work of other clinicians or front-line staff; working with Indigenous or Inuit communities, with an understanding of the impacts of colonization, systemic barriers, and culturally safe approaches to healing; Program delivery or group facilitation experience, particularly in structured residential or community-based addiction and mental health settings.

Salary and Benefits
- Salary range is $70,000 to $75,000 annually
