About the role

THE OPPORTUNITY

BBE seeks an experienced full-cycle Intermediate Accountant to join our Edmonton team on a full-time, 12-month contract. This role is responsible for contributing to the Accounting team's overall success. Reporting to the Senior Accounting Supervisor, this role will ensure BBE International’s (a subsidiary of BBE) accounting workflows are performed accurately and efficiently. The ideal candidate must be customer service-oriented, as collaboration with vendors, customers, fellow employees, and operational staff is required.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Performs full-cycle accounting tasks, including:

    • Accounts receivable, including collections.
    • Accounts payable, including payment batches.
    • Credit card and bank reconciliations.
    • G/L account reconciliations and journal entries.
    • Post journal entries and maintain and reconcile the general ledger.
    • Reconcile account balances and bank statements.
  • Perform some month-end and year-end closing activities.

  • Help prepare financial statements

  • Assist the operations team with administrative tasks

  • Ensure compliance with accounting standards.

  • Ensure accounting practices adhere to company policies and regulatory requirements.

  • Assist in implementing and maintaining internal controls.

  • Support audits (internal and external) by providing documentation and explanations.

  • Provide financial data and analysis to support strategic decisions.

  • Participate in accounting software upgrades or transitions.

  • Suggest improvements to financial processes for accuracy and efficiency.

  • Communication with internal and external stakeholders professionally and promptly.

  • Collaborate with other departments and external stakeholders.

  • Maintain confidentiality.

  • Other duties as assigned.

CORPORATE COMPLIANCE DUTIES

  • Actively participate in BBE’s QHSERT programs and systems.
  • Contribute to and foster transparent, direct communication, education, and customer service enhancement with operations teams and clients.
  • Contribute to BBE’s continuous improvement and organizational efficiency goals.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree or diploma in accounting, finance or a related field or equivalent experience.

  • Minimum of 3 years of full-cycle accounting experience.

  • Experience with CargoWise is an asset.

  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles and practices.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication.

  • Highly proficient in MS Dynamics NAV / Microsoft Business Central is an asset.

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to multitask.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.

  • Professional customer service approach to vendor and staff relations.
