What You’ll Do;

As the Marketing Director for Sporting Life, you will lead the evolution of one of Canada’s most iconic premium retail brands.

Within this role, you’ll define the marketing vision and strategy that strengthens our brand equity, deepens customer loyalty, and drives commercial performance while reporting directly to the President of Sporting Life.

This is a high-impact, strategic role for a leader who can balance creativity with data-driven decision-making to deliver meaningful results across every channel.

  • Define and implement the marketing strategy and annual plan for Sporting Life, aligned with business goals and brand positioning.
  • Lead design, development, and execution of advertising campaigns and promotional programs via traditional channels such as print, radio, outdoor, and sponsorships.
  • Collaborate with internal partners (merchandising, retail operations, leadership) and with external agencies/vendors to deliver high-quality creative and execution.
  • Own the Sporting Life Rewards program and first-party customer data strategy, using insights to drive personalization, loyalty, and omnichannel growth while upholding privacy and consent standards.
  • Develop and manage the marketing budget, allocating resources to maximize impact of advertising, promotions, events, and partnerships.
  • Oversee social media strategy and brand focused content to support promotional and campaign goals, ensuring consistency in voice and messaging.
  • Spearhead events, activations, sponsorships, and community partnerships, amplifying Sporting Life’s presence in sport / lifestyle networks.
  • Conduct market, competitive, and consumer research to inform strategy; measure success of campaigns via KPIs e.g. brand awareness, traffic, sales lift, and partner outcomes.
  • Continuously assess ROI and campaign effectiveness; use insights to refine tactics and improve future initiatives.
  • Collaborate with the Digital Center of Excellence (COE) to optimize content, product listings, and on-site SEO efforts for maximum search engine performance and engagement.
  • Provide overall direction and leadership to the marketing function, promoting alignment, clear communication, and shared ownership of marketing outcomes across the organization.

What You'll Bring;

  • 10+ years of progressive marketing leadership experience in retail, consumer, or lifestyle brands.
  • Proven ability to lead marketing strategy and execution across advertising, promotions, sponsorships, and social media.
  • Strong experience collaborating across functions and influencing executive-level decisions.
  • Track record of managing agencies and vendor partners to deliver impactful campaigns.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and leadership skills; able to engage and inspire diverse teams.
  • Analytical mindset with experience in measuring campaign performance and ROI.
