Position Summary
The Site Support Worker plays a vital role in creating a safe, supportive, and engaging environment for families participating in the Growing Together program. Serving as a consistent, welcoming presence on site, the Site Support Worker collaborates closely with the Coordinator and Growing Together volunteers to deliver semi-structured, family drop-in programming, engaging families in activities, and ensuring all safety and security protocols are upheld. Key responsibilities include greeting youth, parents and volunteers warmly upon arrival and ensuring a positive, inclusive atmosphere throughout the program; monitoring and recording student and volunteer attendance; assisting with the setup, cleanup, and light maintenance of the program space; preparing and serving snacks or meals as needed; overseeing the use and return of program materials and resources and serving as the final point of contact at the end of each session, ensuring all participants depart safely and positively. This role is ideal for someone who is dependable, patient, and committed to fostering an environment where families with children in grades 1 through to 6 feel valued and supported.
Key Responsibilities
Program Support & Safety

Open and set up program rooms at site locations;

Produce and maintain attendance sheets, logs/monitoring sheets and resources;

Deliver semi-structured, family drop-in programming
-
Engaging families in activities
-
Collect program related items for secure storage on site, assisting with any return items to proper storage areas;

Work with caregivers or children to participate in activities, including both 1-on-1 and groups.

Act as a point of contact for participants and volunteers throughout the session, providing assistance and direction as needed.
Communication & Teamwork

Monitor participant behaviour and ensure the emotional and physical safety of all individuals on-site, escalating concerns to the coordinator as necessary.

Work with designated staff as a team in handling emergencies or difficult situations;
-
Keep the project coordinator and other staff up to date on any participant, volunteer, program or site issue or incident.

Comply with all relevant legislation and KCHC policies, including privacy laws

Commits to acquiring an understanding of the importance of trauma responsiveness and the impact of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs)

Basic Education and Experience Requirements

High School Diploma or equivalent
-
Education and/or experience in education or youth focused programs
-
Experience working with equity, diversity and inclusion, and engaging with diverse communities
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Above average oral and written communication skills
-
Demonstrated ability to attend work on a regular basis

Strong interpersonal skills and a commitment to being a “team player”

Other Requirements
- Availability for regular evening hours with Potential Shift Options:
Saturdays: 9:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.
Wednesdays: 3:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.

Shifts are offered on a casual basis and scheduled primarily around program needs, with consideration given to staff availability. While coverage requirements guide scheduling, there is room for some flexibility — for example, shifts may be arranged every other Saturday or 2-3 shifts a month. Hours are not guaranteed but we aim to balance program needs with staff preferences whenever possible.

An interest in athletics is considered an asset; willingness to learn and support sport related activities is encouraged
