Calian is proud to continue a long-standing contractual relationship with the Department of National Defence (DND) to provide healthcare services to the Canadian Armed Forces. Position Overview

Calian is currently seeking a full-time Perioperative Registered Nurse to deliver surgical support to military personnel at the medical clinic situated at CFB Ottawa. The position is a 1.0 FTE requiring 37.5 hours per week, with a standard schedule of 7.5 hours per day during clinic operational hours, Monday to Friday.

Responsibilities

Providing perioperative nursing care in accordance with the scope of practice for a Perioperative Registered Nurse. Attending and completing all required hospital orientation programs, including general and operating room–specific training. Preparing and maintaining a sterile environment for surgical procedures. Assisting the surgical team with gowning and gloving techniques. Managing surgical instruments within the sterile field and back table. Maintaining accurate counts of all instruments, supplies, and surgical materials. Developing and implementing patient care plans for surgical procedures. Reviewing pre-operative assessments with patients. Transferring patients to and from the operating room. Positioning patients in accordance with surgical, anaesthesia, and safety requirements. Performing surgical site preparation prior to procedures. Documenting patient care and procedural details during surgery. Providing instruments, supplies, and medications to the sterile field. Handling surgical specimens and specialized equipment. Coordinating and overseeing activities within the operating room during procedures. Assisting with the induction and emergence phases of anaesthesia as directed by the anaesthetist. Transferring patients to the Post Anaesthesia Care Unit (PACU) and providing verbal handover reports. Setting up, cleaning, and preparing the operating room between surgical cases. Creating and maintaining patient documentation in accordance with hospital and organizational requirements. Adhering to all patient safety protocols, procedures, and standards. Performing other related duties as required.

Qualifications

To be eligible for this position you must meet all the following:

Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing from a recognized university. Registered as a Registered Nurse (RN) with the applicable provincial or territorial regulatory body. Completion of a hospital-based or ORNAC-approved Perioperative Nursing Certification Program. Minimum of two (2) years of full-time, post-graduate clinical experience within the last five (5) years in perioperative nursing, performing both scrub and circulating roles. Experience supporting surgical procedures across specialties including General, Orthopaedic, ENT, and Plastic surgery.

Additional Requirements

You must be able to obtain a Government Security Clearance at the Reliability level. Current certification or willingness to obtain CPR Level C with AED.

Compensation

$48 – $52 hourly (approximately)
