Overview Shermco Industries Job Type: Full-time, PermanentField-based travel required across Canada & USA - relocation not required Shermco Industries is a leading provider of electrical testing, engineering, maintenance, and repair services. We are currently seeking a skilled and safety-focused Senior Transformer Field Service Technician to support field operations across Canada and USA. This role is ideal for an experienced technician with strong expertise in transformer maintenance, oil processing, and field diagnostics who thrives in a travel-based, hands-on environment. Responsibilities Perform inspection, testing, troubleshooting, and repair of power and distribution transformers Identify and repair oil leaks; replace gaskets, seals, and related components Repair or replace radiators, bushings, and auxiliary transformer components Conduct internal transformer inspections and perform maintenance on load tap changers (LTCs) Operate vacuum dehydration and oil processing systems, including filtration, reclamation, and replacement Execute transformer vacuum fill and assemblies Perform electrical testing Neta ATS and MTS standard Support commissioning, preventive maintenance, and outage response activities Maintain accurate service documentation and reports using digital tools (e.g., PowerDB) Follow all company, client, and regulatory safety procedures and standards Qualifications High school diploma or GED Post-secondary technical training preferred (Electrical Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Red Seal Electrician, Industrial Mechanic/Millwright, Motor Winder, or related trade/technical background considered an asset) 5+ years of related transformer field service experience Strong knowledge of transformer maintenance practices and oil processing Proven experience performing internal inspections and repairs of transformers Experience with vacuum filling, oil handling, and transformer assembly Familiarity with electrical test equipment NETA Certification (Level II–IV) or equivalent Canadian experience/ability to obtain certification is preferredProficiency with basic computer applications (MS Excel, email, reporting tools); PowerDB experience an asset Work Conditions & Physical Requirements Field-based role requiring travel to client sites across Canada & USA up to 80% Ability to work extended hours, overtime, and on-call rotations, including weekends/holidays as needed Must be physically capable of lifting up to 34 kg (75 lbs), climbing, crawling, and working in industrial environments Must be able to pass a pre-employment medical/fit-for-duty assessment Employment Requirements Valid Canadian driver’s license with a clean driving record Ability to obtain and maintain required security clearances (e.g., background check, site access) Valid passport; TWIC card considered an asset (for cross-border work) Successful completion of pre-employment drug and alcohol testing (where permitted by law and job site requirements) What We Offer Competitive compensation aligned with Canadian industry benchmarks Overtime eligibility and travel-related allowances Comprehensive benefits package (health, dental, vision, etc.) Ongoing training, certifications, and career development opportunities Opportunity to work on critical infrastructure projects across North America Equal Opportunity EmployerShermco Industries is committed to fostering an inclusive and diverse workplace.
