About the role
What is the opportunity? RBC Capital Markets is seeking an experienced and highly motivated Associate to join the Portfolio & Change Management (PCM) group. The successful candidate will work on various initiatives across the Settlements and Clearing Services (SCS) and Middle Office area within the Business & Client Services (BCS) department. Various project drivers include Business or Process improvements, technology enhancement or system implementations, operational risk reduction, quality improvement, regulatory soundness, cost reduction, etc. The incumbent will work directly with relevant participants to define project parameters, success criteria, solutions, and timelines while deploying best practices in process analysis, requirements documentation, project planning, testing, and stakeholder communication.
What will you do?
- Participate in projects of various sizes and provide business analysis expertise to enable successful execution
- Research, formulate, propose and implement strategic solutions with a focus on identifying process improvement/reengineering opportunities through streamlining, simplification, elimination of redundancies/overlaps, improved capacity utilization, automation, outsourcing, standardization, etc.
- Ensure the effective execution of analysis by team to deliver productivity/improvements positively impacting the bottom line and client satisfaction. Get involved where required.
- Liaise with Operations, Technology, Business and other key teams to define and review requirements
- Provide Capital Markets Operations subject matter expertise as available
- Document UAT (User Acceptance Testing) strategies, including creation of test cases where required
- Work efficiently with a view to high-quality work product and quick-to-market solutions.
- Support system testing and creation of user documentation.
- Build strong, long-term relationships throughout the RBC organization.
- Constantly seek to improve own capacity, skills and expertise.
- Provide concise and effective updates to PCM Leadership, as well as to the Project Manager where applicable.
What do you need to succeed?
Must-have
- Minimum 3 years of experience as a Business Analyst within capital markets domain.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent relevant experience in Finance, Engineering, Science or Math
- Proven business analysis experience with medium to larger Agile projects integrated with downstream and upstream applications and processes
- Strong deliverable experience, including all relevant PMP/SDLC artifacts preparation & delivery
- Good working knowledge of Capital Markets operational functions and processes.
- Detailed understanding of the fundamentals of Capital Markets trading and the transaction lifecycle
- Detailed understanding of RBC Capital Markets organizational structure (front office sales and trading, middle office, product control, BCS, regulatory/compliance, etc.)
- Familiarity with regional differences in operational processing within RBC Capital Markets.
- Self-motivated, able to work independently and within a team
- Ability to prioritize, plan and execute work to meet tight deadlines
- Strong analytical skills - Ability to identify issues and suggest solutions
- Detail oriented
- Capable of building strong relationships with clients and stakeholders across the enterprise
- Possesses excellent communication skills; demonstrates strong critical thinking abilities with a proactive approach to inquiry, ensuring the ability to pose insightful questions
- Familiarity with Agile and Waterfall methodologies

- Strong Knowledge of supporting systems within Middle and Back Office Operations (TOMS, Murex, Apex, RIMMS, RATS, ICI, SWIFT)
- Experience and knowledge of Real-time Stock Record
- Skillful in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Word, Visio, etc.)
- Proficiency in VBA (Visual Basic for Applications)
