About the role

Scope of Position

As Program Lead, Club and Mountain Bike Programs you will be overseeing all aspects of WinSport’s Mountain Bike and Club Ski & Snowboard Programs. Club programs include WinSport’s internal Ski and Snowboard Freestyle programs, as well as WinSport’s Alpine Ski program. Ensuring smooth operations and positive guest experiences by developing, implementing, maintaining, optimizing, and growing solutions within your function is a primary focus of this role, along with developing, maintaining, and leading a successful team through performance management and evaluation of instructors and coaches. Additionally, you will ensure external clubs that operate at WinSport operate within their contractual requirements and serve as their primary point of contact.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for leading, supervising, and training of Team Leads, Instructors, and Coaches
  • Work with cross-functional partners to develop and update manuals, policies and procedures for all training and instructional features
  • Work with Team & Culture to plan and execute recruitment of Instructors, Coaches, Shift Leads, and Administrative Team Members. Hire, develop, and maintain high-performing teams in each area of Sport Operations
  • Create and lead training sessions for WinSport team members on topics including instruction techniques, participant evaluation and safe equipment use
  • Actively engage in instructor lessons and offer feedback to build an effective coaching system
  • Contribute and provide operational insight during toolbox discussions
  • Ensure scheduling and shift coverage are appropriate for daily business. Balance the needs of the organization, guest value, and the expectations of Team Members
  • Ensure the completion and submission of timesheets to ensure payroll is done on time and accurately
  • Oversee performance management of instructors, coaches, and administrative Team Members and provide feedback for improvement, including disciplinary measures as necessary
  • Collaborate with the operations department to plan and design the development of ski, snowboard, and mountain bike trails, terrain, and features to connect sport progression
  • Actively work with trail crew and provide feedback on trail, feature and terrain design, including providing feedback on areas in which improvements of maintenance is needed
  • Maintain knowledge of technical and industry standards for all venues and skill development within your portfolio
  • Act as WinSport’s Mountain Bike and Freestyle ambassador and build relationships with local groups
  • Build, maintain, and adhere to departmental budget; achieve sales targets, oversee expenses and revenue including the oversight of temporary labor. Demonstrate cost consciousness in managing Sport Operations.
  • Liaison with Guest Services for product knowledge of programs and services
  • Lead by example in promoting a safe work environment by adhering to all WinSport safety policy and procedures and ensuring one’s own safety is preserved along with the safety of co-workers, direct reports and WinSport guests
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a related field required
  • 2 years of experience in a leadership role required
  • Post-secondary education in Sport & Recreation Management or related field of study is considered an asset
  • Up to date and current First Aid and CPR is required
  • PMBIA Level 1 Certification or higher considered an asset
  • Freestyle Fundamentalz or Freestyle Air 1, 2, 3 or 4 Certifications are considered an asset
  • Previous experience coaching and teaching required
  • Previous experience in the sport and recreation industry, preferably with a focus in mountain sport
  • Reliable and conscientious in carrying out work-related tasks
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a consistently fast-paced environment, with the ability to delegate tasks as appropriate
  • Understanding of, respect for, and commitment to maintaining confidentiality where required
  • Must be enthusiastic and have a positive attitude at work
  • Strong computer skills, proficient in the use of Microsoft Office suite
  • Strong communication skills both written and verbal
  • Experience working with and leading individuals of all ages is an asset

Physical Demands

  • Able to work outside for long periods of time in various weather conditions as well as working in an office environment
  • Expected to lift, carry, push or pull objects weighing up to 30lbs
  • Maintain a high level of energy throughout the day
  • Available to Work occasional evenings and weekends as necessary

The Bill Warren Training Centre (BWTC) opened in January 1994. The facility provides fitness training and support services to Nordic athletes and the public. The BWTC is located at the Canmore Nordic Centre. It was the host site of the cross-country skiing and biathlon events at the 1988 Olympic Winter Games.
