The mandate of PEI Analytical Laboratories is to provide the public, farmers, extension specialists, corporations and research scientists with an analytical service for water, soil, feed, dairy, seed, plant tissue, manure, and compost samples. The results produced by the Laboratory are used to optimize efficiency of resource inputs, diagnose problems and ensure general sustainable resource practices. Analytical results are to be timely, accurate and repeatable to afford maximum utility to clients.

Duties will include but are not limited to:

  • Preparing and receiving samples;
  • Analyzing samples according to accredited methods and procedures;
  • Providing data entry and verification of results;
  • Ensuring all records are up to date for accreditation;
  • Preparing reagents and analytical standards for chemical analysis procedures and ensuring they are within procedural guidelines;
  • Use and maintenance of equipment including but not limited to ICP-MS, ICP-OES, LECO Combustion Analyzers, pH meters and Segmented Flow Autoanalyzer's;
  • Use of laboratory’s information systems LIMS for sample tracking and reporting of results
  • Analysis of laboratory quality control samples and proficiency testing samples;
  • Other duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Diploma from a recognized Laboratory or Environmental Technology program or a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry or Biology.
  • Demonstrated equivalencies will be considered.
  • Previous experience in an accredited laboratory using a variety of laboratory equipment.
  • Familiarity with the agriculture industry, preferably soil science, animal nutrition and/or water quality.
  • Basic knowledge of computers, i.e. use of variety of data processing, database and spreadsheet programs such as Excel, MS 365, Laboratory Information Management Systems, etc.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and unsupervised.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
