THE POSITION
Seeking a technically skilled Intermediate+ Engineer to support the ongoing integrity, optimization, and strategic development of our disposal well infrastructure. This role will be a key internal resource for subsurface expertise, ensuring the safe, compliant, and efficient operation of our existing wells and guiding future disposal strategy.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop and lead long-term strategies for water and acid gas egress across our asset base, integrating subsurface performance data, regulatory context, and industry best practices. Translate technical findings into clear commercial and operational risks and guide decision-making on disposal pathways.
- The Reservoir Engineer is accountable from location selection through to execution support. Key deliverables include reservoir selection, well design recommendations, and the technical leadership of drilling and completion for new acid gas disposal and produced water disposal wells.
DISPOSAL WELL SELECTION & DESIGN
- Lead the selection of disposal reservoirs/locations for acid gas and produced water wells, focusing on subsurface suitability (reservoir integrity, seismicity, pressure profiles, fluid compatibility etc.).
- Define well objectives, target intervals, and operating envelopes (rates, pressures, limits) for disposal wells.
DRILLING & COMPLETIONS LEADERSHIP
- Act as the technical lead for drilling and completion design of new acid gas and produced water wells, working in close collaboration with external drilling, completions teams as well as internal facilities and commercial teams.
- Provide real‑time technical support during drilling and completions execution.
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide technical leadership in the assessment, modeling, and optimization of existing water and acid gas disposal wells, including pressure monitoring, workovers, and abandonments.
- Support internal review and interpretation of third-party reservoir models and ensure sound engineering judgment is applied to outputs.
- Manage or contribute to regulatory applications related to both water wells and acid gas injection wells.
- Hire, onboard, and provide ongoing management / supervision of wellsite supervisors.
- Optimize cost performance related to disposal well operations.
- Provide input into disposal well OPEX planning and proactively address feedback on cost competitiveness.
- Lead or contribute to risk assessments related to disposal infrastructure.
- Represent Keyera on external industry working groups to protect and promote corporate interests.
- Interpret and communicate technical reports to inform commercial and operational decisions.
QUALIFICATIONS
- 10 + years of industry experience in subsurface engineering background (reservoir, geological, or completions engineering preferred).
- Direct experience with disposal wells and AGI operations, including regulatory knowledge of AER D65, Class II/Ib wells, and reservoir evaluation.
- Proficiency in interpreting and critiquing disposal well models and inputs.
- Strong working knowledge of disposal well infrastructure, particularly subsurface systems and typical failure points.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate complex technical concepts for non-technical audiences.
